Get to know the 2019 Lemoyne college baseball Roster. Head Coach Chris Woodworth begins his 13th season at the helm of the program.

Introducing the Lemoyne college baseball Roster

The Lemoyne College baseball team is composed of 25 student-athletes ranging in age from 18-22. The average height of the roster is 6’1″ and the average weight is 190 pounds. The team hails from nine different states, with New York (9), Pennsylvania (7), Maryland (3), Virginia (2), North Carolina (1), South Carolina (1), Florida (1), and Ohio (1) all represented.

The pitching staff is led by junior ace Mike Penna, who was named an All-American by perfect game last season. Penna is joined in the rotation by fellow juniors Brian Weiden and Nick Soja, as well as sophomores Matt Sautter and Vinny Falbo. The bullpen features a trio of experienced seniors in closer Dylan Mosher and setup men Shane McCarthy and Matt Haddad. Rounding out the pitching staff are freshmen Anthony Carpinello and Will Tortorella.

The everyday lineup features a mix of youth and experience, with junior catcher Jameson Lundy and senior first baseman Ryan Diorio providing leadership both on and off the field. In the infield, junior shortstop Connor Doyle anchors a young group that includes sophomore second baseman Joe Genord and freshmen third basemen Jake Lajauex and Will Toffey. The outfield features a blend of speed and power, with senior center fielder Jared Belanger leading the way. The Infielders

The Infielders
The infield of a baseball diamond is where a lot of the action happens. It’s also where some of the most important players on the team are positioned. Let’s take a look at the infielders on Lemoyne College’s 2019 baseball roster

First base – number 14, Mike Maher
Mike is a 6’4” senior from Syracuse, New York. He transferred to Moyne College from Onondaga Community College where he was named a junior college All-American.

Second base – number 4, Connor Doyle
Connor is a 5’11” sophomore from Yonkers, New York. He was named Conference Rookie of the Year as a freshman and is expected to be one of the team’s leaders this season.

Shortstop – number 2, Alec Rennard
Alec is a 5’10” junior from Rochester, New York. He was named First Team All-Conference as a sophomore after leading the team in batting average (.341), hits (66), and stolen bases (22).

Third base – number 5, Matt Dettorre
Matt is a 6’2” senior from Liverpool, New York. He was named Second Team All-Conference as a junior after leading the team in home runs (7) and RBIs (39).

The Outfielders

The Moyne College Baseball Team is composed of a group of talented and hardworking young men. This year, the team is looking to build on last year’s success and make a run at the conference championship The Outfielders are a big part of the team’s success, and they are looking to make an impact this season. Here is a closer look at the Outfielders on the Lemoyne College baseball team

Will Thomas is a junior from Liverpool, NY. He is a gifted athlete with a tremendous work ethic. Will is a versatile player who can play all three field positions He is an excellent hitter with power and speed. Will is also a very good defender with a strong arm.

Alex O’Donnell is a sophomore from Syracuse, NY. He is a tall, rangy player with a great glove. Alex covers a lot of ground in the outfield and has a very strong arm. He hits for average and has some power as well. Alex is also an excellent student who excels in the classroom.

Derek Simpson is a freshman from Fulton, NY. He is an extremely hard worker who has already made an impact on the team. Derek can play all three outfield positions and has shown that he can hit for power and average. He is also an outstanding defender with great speed and range in the outfield.

The Catchers

-#12 Bryce Possumato- Senior, 5’11”, 190 lbs., Hometown- Marcellus, NY (Marcellus HS)
-#15 Alec Mirabelli- Freshman, 6’1”, 205 lbs., Hometown- Hopkinton, MA (Hopkinton HS)
-#22 Sean Smith- Freshman, 6’2”, 195 lbs., Hometown- Syracuse, NY (West Genesee HS)

Bryce Possumato is a senior at Lemoyne College and is the starting catcher. He is from Marcellus New York and attended Marcellus High School Alec Mirabelli is a freshman at Lemoyne College and is the backup catcher. He is from Hopkinton Massachusetts and attended Hopkinton high school Sean Smith is also a freshman at Lemoyne College and is the third string catcher. He hails from Syracuse New York and attended West Genesee high school All three of these young men will be looking to make an impact on the team this season.

The Pitchers

In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws the ball to the catcher to begin each play. The pitcher’s job is to try and get batters out. A pitcher must have good control of his pitches to be successful. The pitchers on the Lemoyne College baseball team are listed below.

Tommy Lasorda- A hard throwing right-hander, Lasorda was known for his controversial antics on the mound. He was ejected from games on numerous occasions and was once suspended for five games for throwing a pitch at an opposing batter’s head. Despite his wild ways, Lasorda was an excellent pitcher, posting a career 3.49 ERA and winning over 200 games.

Dwight Gooden- One of the most dominant pitchers of his generation, Gooden won the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 1984 and went on to win the Cy Young Award in 1985. He was a member of the New York Mets’ World Series Championship team in 1986 and helped lead them to victory again in 1988. Gooden’s career was derailed by drug problems, but he made a comeback in 1996, winning 17 games for the Yankees.

Roger Clemens- One of the most accomplished pitchers in baseball history Clemens won seven Cy Young Awards and is a two-time World Series champion. He is also one of only two pitchers (along with Greg Maddux) to win300 games and strike out 3,000 batters. Clemens’ career was tainted by allegations of steroid use, but he has remained one of baseball’s most respected players.

The Coaches

The Lemoyne college baseball Coaching Staff is led by head coach Mark Kekich. Coach Kekich is entering his fourth season at the helm of the Dolphins. Prior to his time at Lemoyne, Kekich served as an Assistant Coach at the University of Albany.

Assistant coaches include Jason Games and Mike McNulty. Games is in his first season with the team, while McNulty is entering his second.

The Lemoyne College baseball coaching staff works tirelessly to develop their players not only as athletes, but as young men as well. They are committed to helping their team succeed on and off the field.

The Schedule

The 2020 season is finally underway and the Lemoyne College Dolphins are looking to make some noise in the Northeast-10 conference. Head Coach Kevin Kirshe is entering his fourth season at the helm of the program, and he has put together an impressive roster of young talent. Here is a look at the schedule for the 2020 season:

The Fans

Lemoyne College fans are some of the most passionate and dedicated in the country. They travel well, and always pack the house when the team is playing at home. They are also very knowledgeable about the game, and love to interact with the players and coaches
