With the college baseball season just around the corner, here is a look at the Longwood baseball roster The Lancers will be looking to build on last year’s success, when they won their first ever Big South Conference Championship. This year’s team will be led by a talented group of players, who are looking to take the next step and make some noise in the NCAA tournament Here are some of the players to keep an eye on this season:
1. Connor Owings: Owings is a senior infielder who was named First Team All-Big South last season. He is a versatile player who can play both shortstop and second base. Owings is also a dangerous hitter, as he led the team in batting average (.338), home runs (8), and RBIs (41) last season.
2. Logan Allen Allen is a junior left-handed pitcher who was named Big South Pitcher of the Year last season. He had an outstanding year, going 9-1 with a 2.48 ERA in 16 starts. Allen will once again anchor the Longwood rotation and will be one of the top pitchers in the conference.
3. Tyler Webb Webb is a senior right-handed pitcher who was named Second Team All-Big South last season. He was one of the most reliable relievers on the team, appearing in 27 games and posting a 3.86 ERA. Webb will once again be called upon to pitch in late-inning situations and could see some time as the closer this season.
4. Jordan Ackerman: Ackerman is a junior outfielder who was named Second Team All-Big South last season. He is a versatile player who can play all three field positions Ackerman is also an excellent hitter, as he batted .305 with 8 home runs and 37 RBIs last year.
5. Blake Bickle: Bickle is a senior catcher who provides leadership and stability behind the plate for Longwood. He is also a very good hitter, batting .289 with 5 home runs and 33 RBIs last season. Bickle will once again be one of the top hitters in the lineup and will provide solid defense for the Lancers
Meet the Longwood Baseball Roster
Head Coach Grundy
wood baseball is set to have another great season and head coach Grundy has high hopes for his team.
“We have a lot of talent and a lot of potential,” said Coach Grundy. “We just have to go out and execute on the field.”
The Lancers return a solid core of players from last year’s squad that made it to the conference championship game. Among those returners are senior infielder/pitcher Ryan Browder, who was named first team all-conference, and junior outfielder/pitcher Drew Webb, who was second team all-conference.
“Browder is one of the best hitters in the conference,” said Grundy. “He’s a guy that we can count on to drive in runs and play solid defense.”
Webb is also a key player for the Lancers. “Drew is a five-tool player,” said Grundy. “He can hit for average, he has power, he’s a great fielder, and he has a rocket for an arm.”
Other key returners include senior catcher Matt Thaiss, junior infielder/pitcher Nick Paesano, junior pitcher Austin Knighton, and sophomore pitcher Cory Goymerac.
Get to Know the Wood Baseball Roster
The Longwood baseball team is looking to Bounce Back this season after a disappointing 2018 campaign. Although they finished with a losing record, the team showed flashes of potential and is hoping to build on that this year. Here is a look at the roster for the 2019 season:
Pitchers:
-Harry Billingsley: A senior from Virginia Beach Billingsley is the team’s ace and will be counted on to lead the pitching staff. He had a strong junior year, posting a 3.54 ERA in 13 starts.
-Jacob Cox: A transfer from Louisburg College, Cox is a talented left-hander who adds depth to the pitching rotation. He’ll look to make an impact as a starter or out of the bullpen.
-Andrew Dickson: Another senior, Dickson is a local product from Chesterfield who has been with the program for four years. He’s coming off a solid junior season and will be counted on to eat up innings as a middle reliever.
Catchers:
-Travis McDonald: A junior from Colonial Heights, McDonald is entering his second year as the starter behind the plate. He’s a Good defensive catcher with solid catch-and-throw skills.
-Cole Mundy: A freshman from Manassas Park, Mundy will serve as McDonald’s backup this season. He’s an athletic defender with a strong arm who also has some potential at the plate.
Infielders:
-Hunter Allen: A sophomore from Mechanicsville, Allen returns as the starting shortstop after an impressive freshman campaign. He hits for average and has good range defensively.
-Sean Breen: A junior transfer from William & Mary, Breen will start at third base for the Lancers. He’s a slick fielder with a great arm and he also provides some power at the plate.
-Blake Houston: A sophomore from Hopewell, Houston is expected to start at second base after appearing in 31 games as a freshman. He’s a solid defender with good speed and he can also contribute offensively .
-Chandler Orr: Another sophomore, Orr will start at first base after seeing time there and in left field last season. He’s got good power potential and he’s also working on becoming more disciplined at the plate .
-Jake Myers : Rounding out the infield is Myers, a freshman from Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina . Myers was recruited as a middle infielder but he can also play third base . He’s expected to be one of the team’s top hitters this season .
Outfielders : -Ryan Cook : The only senior outfielder , Cook is originally from Massachusetts but he played his High School ball in Georgia . Cook hit leadoff for most of last season and he provides good speed and energy at the top of -the lineup . -Cole Johnson : Johnson , a sophomore , started in right field for much of last season but he could see time in center field this year . He hit -better than -..500 as -a senior in high school and he has good pop in his bat . -Garrett Lowery : Lowery , another sophomore , helped anchor -the Longwood outfield last season while hitting in -the middle of -the order . He hits for average and power and he should see his production increase this year .

The Longwood Lancers Baseball Team is set to have an exciting season, with plenty of talented players on the roster. Here are some of the ones to watch out for.
One of the most promising players on the team is pitcher Nick Lee, who was recently named conference preseason player of the year. A senior from Virginia Beach, Lee is coming off a strong junior season in which he had a 3.03 ERA and was named first-team all-conference. He’ll be looked to as one of the leaders of the pitching staff this season.
Another key player will be first baseman Zachary Preschel, who led the team in Home Runs last year with eight. The junior from Maryland also batted cleanup most of last season and will likely continue to do so this year. He’s a power hitter who can also hit for average, and he’s expected to be one of the top run producers in the lineup.
Infielder Robby Rinn is another player to keep an eye on. The junior from Massachusetts is a versatile player who can play both second base and shortstop.
