Loyola Maryland University has a long and storied history in regards to its Basketball Program The team has been in existence since 1893, making it one of the oldest programs in the nation. In that time, they’ve amassed an impressive record of 21-0, 31-1, and 34-2 in their three seasons since joining Division I in 2013. They’ve also won two regular season conference championships and made the NCAA tournament twice.

The Program

Loyola Maryland University is a private Jesuit university located in Baltimore, Maryland. The school’s Basketball Program has a long and storied history, dating back to the early days of the sport. The Greyhounds have won three NCAA Division I championships and made 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament

Today, the Loyola Maryland Basketball team competes in the Patriot League one of the nation’s most competitive conferences. The team is coached by Pat Geary, who has led the Greyhounds to two NCAA tournament appearances in his five years at the helm.

With that being said, Loyola has had great success since joining the conference. They have won 12 conference championships and have had 4 NCAA tournament appearances. They have also produced 3 conference players of the year, 3 Defensive Players of the year, and 2 rookies of the year.

The Schedule

The Loyola Maryland men’s basketball team will open its 2019-20 season at home against Navy on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.

The Greyhounds will play 18 Patriot League games this season, nine at home and nine on the road. They will open conference play on Saturday, Jan. 4, at home against Bucknell.

Loyola will face each of the other seven Patriot League teams twice during the regular season once at home and once on the road. The top four teams in the Conference Standings at the end of the Regular Season will qualify for the Patriot League Tournament which will be held from March 3-7 at campus sites.

The Roster

The Loyola Maryland men’s Basketball team is composed of 14 student-athletes, all of whom are committed to academic and athletic excellence.

Head coach Patton led the Greyhounds to their first Patriot League regular season title in 2017-2018 and was named the conference’s Coach of the Year. He has coached four All-Patriot League First Team selections and two defensive players of the Year during his tenure at Loyola.

This season, the team will look to build on last year’s success with returning junior guard Andre Walker leading the way. Walker, who averaged 11.2 points per game last season, was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League First Team.
