The following day – August 26th – he signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs He finished out the 2003 season playing 7 games for their Triple-A affiliate – the Iowa Cubs

Shallenberger spent 2004 back with Iowa before signing a Minor League contract with the Seattle Mariners on January 27th, 2005. That season – 2005 – he set career highs in batting average (.267), home runs (12), and RBIs (59). After one season with Seattle’s Triple-A affiliate – the Tacoma Rainiers – Shallenberger became a Free Agent at seasons end.
