As a senior in 2008, he batted .426 with 15 home runs and 52 RBIs. He was also named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Tennessee. In football, he played quarterback and was named first-team all-state as a senior.

Muncy was drafted by the A’s in the fifth round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft out of Baylor University. He spent three years in Oakland’s farm system before being traded to the Dodgers in July 2015. After hitting 36 home runs with a .263 batting average and a .973 OPS in Triple-A during the 2017 season, he was called up to the majors on April 17, 2018. In his first full season with Los Angeles he slashed .263/.382/.582 with 35 home runs and a career-high 104 RBIs. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career.

Muncy was born in Midland, Texas, and played baseball and football at Keller High School He then attended Baylor University, where he played college baseball for the Bears. As a freshman at Baylor in 2010, he appeared in 50 games, starting 28 of them, and hit .276/.381/.484 with three home runs and 19 RBIs. As a sophomore in 2011, he played in 61 games with 57 starts, batting .315/.436/.417 with no home runs and 22 RBIs. In 2012, as a junior, he batted .285/.402/.553 with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs in 54 games. That summer, Muncy also played collegiate summer baseball for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod baseball league (CCBL).

As a senior at Midlothian high school he had a batting average of .465 with eight home runs 35 walks, and just four strikeouts in 100 at bats. The Chicago Cubs selected him in the fifth round of the 2010 major league baseball draft, but he did not sign and instead attended Baylor University to play college baseball for the Baylor Bears baseball team

Legacy
