Get to Know the Middlebury Baseball Roster

The Middlebury college baseball team is made up of some of the most talented athletes in the country. Get to know the roster and see what they bring to the table.

Introduction

This spring, the Middlebury baseball roster is flush with new and returning talent. The team’s primary strengths lie in its experienced starting rotation and deep bullpen.

On the mound, the Panthers will be led by a trio of experienced starters in senior captain Chris Simonton (4-2, 3.24 ERA in 2019), junior Will Swiech (2-1, 3.38 ERA in 2019) and sophomore Matt Daley (4-0, 2.70 ERA in 2019). All three pitchers are coming off strong seasons and will provide a solid foundation for the Middlebury pitching staff.

In relief, the Panthers will look to junior Will Handley (3 saves, 1.13 ERA in 2019) and sophomore Owen Lilly (1 save, 2.45 ERA in 2019) to close out games. Both pitchers were key contributors to the Middlebury pitching staff last season and will play an important role again this year.

At the plate, the Panthers will be led by a group of experienced hitters, including senior captain Nate Menninger (.301 batting average 4 home runs 24 RBIs in 2019), junior Will Swiech (.311 batting average 6 home runs 38 RBIs in 2019) and sophomore Matt Daley (.313 batting average 5 home runs 27 RBIs in 2019). All three hitters are coming off strong seasons and will provide a solid foundation for the Middlebury offense.

The Panthers also have a number of young hitters who are expected to make an impact this season, including freshman outfielders Chris Murphy and Michael Brown. Both players showed great potential during fall practices and could be key contributors to theMiddlebury offense this spring.

Schedule

The 2016 Middlebury College baseball schedule features 30 regular season games, including 16 home contests and 14 road contests. The Panthers will play a total of eight non-conference games against four different opponents.

Results

The 2019 Middlebury Baseball Team had a great season! They finished with an overall record of 26-9 and won the NESCAC Championship for the first time in program history. The team was led by senior captain Will Martin, who was named NESCAC Player of the Year.
