The early season success
Any team that goes undefeated in conference play is bound to have a target on its back the rest of the way. That’s exactly the case for the
Minnehaha boys basketball team which is off to a 4-0 start in league play. The Redhawks are coming off a 20-5 campaign a year ago in which they went undefeated in conference play and won a state title.
This year’s squad has some big shoes to fill with the graduation of Mr. Basketball finalist Chet Holmgren but there’s no shortage of talent on coach Lance Johnson’s roster. Senior guard Jalen Suggs is one of the top recruits in the country and he’s already shown why he’s one of the best players in the state. Suggs is averaging 26 points, eight rebounds and eight assists per game while shooting 58 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range
Fellow seniors Prince Aligbe (17 ppg) and Hercy Miller (15 ppg) are also averaging double figures scoring, while senior forward Tamari Key is providing a spark off the bench. The Redhawks have plenty of depth and they’re Playing like a team on a mission. With Suggs leading the way, don’t be surprised if Minnehaha goes undefeated in conference play for the second straight year and makes another deep run in the State Tournament
The challenges ahead

One of the biggest challenges the team will face is a lack of experience. With only two seniors on the roster, the team will be relying on younger players to step up and fill key roles. Another challenge will be playing against teams that have had a full season of games under their belt. The Minnehaha players will need to be ready to compete from day one.
Despite the challenges, the team is excited for what lies ahead. They are determined to show everyone that they are the best Basketball team in the state. With hard work and dedication, they can achieve their goal and make Minnehaha proud.
