Mississippi State Advances to Baseball Regional

The Mississippi State Bulldogs baseball team is headed to the NCAA regional after defeating the South Alabama Jaguars 9-1 in the final game of the Sun Belt conference tournament The Bulldogs (40-19) will be the No. 4 seed in the Lafayette Regional and will face top-seeded Louisiana State (43-16) in the Opening Round on Friday.

How Mississippi State Advances to Baseball Regional

In order to advance to a Baseball Regional a team must have one of the top 64 records in the nation at the end of the regular season They must then win their conference tournament Mississippi State had a 42-16 record at the end of the regular season and won the SEC tournament so they advanced to a regional.

What this means for Mississippi State

This is the first time in program history that the Bulldogs have advanced to a regional in back-to-back years, and the first time since 2013 that MSU will host a regional.

With the win, Mississippi State (42-16) secures the No. 4 national seed and will host a regional for the fourth time in school history.

The Bulldogs will face off against South Alabama (38-20) in the first game of the regional on Friday, June 1 at 3 p.m. CT.

The journey to the Regional

The third and final game of the Starkville Regional was against Connecticut. This was by far the toughest test for Mississippi State as Connecticut is a very good team. However, Mississippi State rose to the occasion and won the game by a score of 6-3, punching their ticket to the regional.

This is a very exciting time for Mississippi State Baseball They have worked hard all season and it has paid off. They are now one of 16 teams remaining in the NCAA tournament The challenges ahead are not going to be easy, but this team has shown they are up to the task.
