The history of Monroe Baseball dates back to the late 1800s, when the then-independent city had its own minor league team The team was known as the Monroe Blues, and they played in the Louisiana State League. The Blues were one of the most successful teams in the league, winning four championships between 1892 and 1898.
After the dissolution of the Louisiana State League, Monroe baseball went into a bit of a hiatus until 1905, when a new team called the Monroe Cardinals was formed. The Cardinals were members of the Cotton States League, and they enjoyed moderate success over the next few years.
