Catchers
The Mount Union Baseball Team is made up of hardworking student athletes who are committed to excellence both on and off the field. The team roster is made up of talented players from all over the country, and each one brings something unique to the squad.
The Catchers
Ethan Kaster-Junior
Ethan hails from Navarre, Ohio and is a junior majoring in marketing. He is a two-year starter behind the plate for the Raiders and is known for his strong arm and leadership skills.
Luke Cahan-Sophomore
Luke is a sophomore from Canfield, Ohio and is majoring in business administration. He is a versatile player who can also play first base and third base. Luke has a great batting eye and is one of the team’s top hitters.

Infielders
The Mount Union baseball team is made up of talented athletes from all over the United States These young men have come together to form a close-knit group that loves the Game of Baseball The team is made up of 18 student-athletes, with nine infielders, six outfielders, and three pitchers.
Infielders
The infielders are some of the most important players on the team. They are responsible for stopping any balls that are hit towards them and then throwing the ball to the person who is closest to the base that the runner is trying to reach.
-First Baseman: This player stands on the first Base Line waiting for someone to hit the ball towards them. Once the ball is hit, they must quickly pick it up and throw it to whoever is closest to the base that the runner is trying to reach.
-Second Baseman: This player stands on the second base line waiting for someone to hit the ball their way. They must be able to field the ball quickly and then make an accurate throw to first base in order to get the runner out.
-Third Baseman: This player stands on the third base line waiting for someone to hit the ball their way. They must be able to field the ball quickly and then make a strong throw to first base in order to get the runner out.
-Shortstop: This player stands between second and third base. They must be able to field any balls that are hit their way and then make an accurate throw to first base in order to get the runner out.
-Catcher: This player stands behind home plate waiting for someone to pitch the ball. Once they catch the ball, they must be quick enough to stand up and throw it back to whoever pitched it before the runner has a chance to steal a base.
Outfielders
The Mount Union Baseball Team has four outfielders this season.
Senior Ryan Thorne (Logan, Ohio) looks to build off a stellar junior campaign where he was named first team All-OAC after hitting .368 with a home run and 20 RBI.
Joining Thorne in the outfield is a pair of sophomores in Jake Crawford (Alliance, Ohio / Marlington) and Jack Dissinger (Lawrenceville, Ga. / Archer). Crawford was second on the team with a .360 batting average last season while Dissinger looks to make an impact after appearing in just two games last year.
Rounding out the group is freshman Simon Pratt (North Canton, Ohio / Hoover), who will be looking to make an immediate impact on the team.
Pitchers
The Mount Union Baseball team is made up of student-athletes who are passionate about the game and strive for excellence both on and off the field. The team is comprised of talented pitchers who have dedicated themselves to perfecting their craft. Get to know the pitchers on this year’s team below.
Coaches
The Mount Union baseball team is coached by Head Coach Josh Engel and Assistant Coach Matt Mattingly. Engel is entering his third season with the team, while Mattingly is entering his first.
