The player with the highest point total, regardless of the number of first-place votes, wins the award.

Defensive Player of the Year

The NBA Summer League Defensive Player of the Year is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) award given to the best Defensive Player of the Summer League The award was first given out in 2008, and has been given out every year since.

The winner of the award is selected by a panel of NBA Summer League coaches, general managers, and media members. The player with the highest point total is then named the defensive player of the Year.

As there is no actual trophy or award given to the recipient of this honor, it is often seen as more of a recognition of effort than anything else. Nevertheless, it is still an prestigious honor to be named the Defensive Player of the Year, and many players have used it as a springboard to greater success in their careers.

Sixth Man of the Year

The National Basketball Association’s (NBA) sixth man of the Year Award is given to the best performing player for each team who is not a starter. A formal voting process involving Basketball Media members determines the winner of this award. The Sixth Man of the Year Award was first given out at the end of the 1982–83 NBA season Bobby Jones was the first ever recipient of this award coming off the bench for the Philadelphia 76ers. Originally, a player had to come off the bench in more games than he started to be eligible but that rule was changed prior to the 2005–06 season.

In order for a player to win this prestigious award, he must have an impressive skill set. The player must also provide a significant impact for his team when he is on the court; whether it be scoring, defense, or playmaking. The Sixth Man must also exhibit great sportsmanship and leadership qualities.

Lawrence Frank (2004–05), Byron Scott (2000–01), Rick Carlisle (1990–91) and Johnny Davis (1982–83) all coached their respective teams to NBA titles after their players won Sixth Man of the Year honors; Frank and Scott were named Nba Coach of the Year in those seasons as well. No other coach has accomplished this feat since then but many have come close such as Gregg Popovich in 2012–13 when San Antonio Spurs’ sixth man Manu Ginóbili won Sixth Man of the Year honors while Popovich won Coach of they Year.
