How the Field of 64 is Determined
The NCAA Baseball Tournament is a double-elimination event held each year to determine the National Champion of Collegiate Baseball The tournament format has varied greatly over the years, but the current format consists of 64 teams. 30 of these teams are awarded an automatic bid by winning their conference tournament while the remaining 34 teams are selected by a committee.
The selection process for the Caa Baseball tournament is similar to that used for the NCAA Basketball Tournament A committee of 10 members evaluates all eligible Division I baseball teams and then selects the best 32 squads to receive at-large bids. These 34 teams are then placed into four regional brackets of eight teams each.
The four regionals are played at predetermined campus sites, with the winners advancing to play in one of eight Super Regionals The Super Regional winners then advance to the College World Series a best-of-three Championship Series held at Omaha’s TD Ameritrade Park.
The Selection Process
The process for NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament selection is similar to that used in other NCAA sports. The tournament field is announced on Selection Monday, which this year is May 30. The 64-team tournament field is selected by the 10-member NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.
The committee ranks the top 40 teams overall and then allocates eight national seeds. The top 16 teams are seeded 1-16 and placed into one of four regionals. The remaining 32 teams are placed into eight regionals of four teams each based on geographical proximity.
