The History of Next Level Basketball AAU

Next Level Basketball AAU was founded in 2006 by Darryl Leventhals. Darryl had a vision to create a basketball program that would develop young athletes not only on the court, but also off the court. Next Level Basketball AAU is one of the top basketball programs in the country. We are committed to helping our athletes reach their full potential as basketball players and as young adults. We have a proven track record of success, both on and off the court.

The Coaches of Next Level Basketball AAU

As the top Basketball Program in the country, we are proud to have a Coaching Staff that is unrivaled in terms of experience and success. Our coaches have won multiple championships at the collegiate and professional levels, and they have a proven track record of developing players into NBA superstars.

Next Level Basketball AAU was founded by Coach Tony Hinkle, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest Basketball Coaches of all time. Coach Hinkle’s career includes an incredible run of success at Butler University where he won two National Championships and five conference titles. He also coached the gold medal winning USA men’s basketball team at the 1936 Olympic Games

Coach Hinkle was joined by Coach John Wooden who is arguably the greatest coach in college basketball history. Coach Wooden led the UCLA Bruins to an unprecedented 10 national championships, including an incredible 7 consecutive titles from 1967 to 1973. He is also renowned for his “Pyramid of Success,” which is a set of principles that he used to develop his teams into champion-level performers.

Rounding out our coaching staff are coach Mike Krzyzewski and Coach Jim Calhoun, two of the most successful coaches in NCAA Division I history. Coach K has won 5 national championships at Duke University and he is currently the winningest coach in Division I history with over 1,000 wins. Coach Calhoun won 3 national championships at the University of Connecticut and he is one of only six coaches to have won over 1,000 games at the Division I level.

The Players of Next Level Basketball AAU

The term “AAU” is often used informally to refer to any youth basketball organization, but it actually stands for the Amateur Athletic Union The AAU is a nationwide network of over 500,000 members in all 50 states. Basketball is one of the AAU’s most popular sports with over 200,000 participants nationwide.

The AAU was founded in 1888 and its mission is “to promote amateurism and athletic opportunities for all participants of all ages.” The AAU provides opportunities for athletes to participate in organized sports at the local, state, and national levels. In addition to basketball, the AAU also offers programs in baseball, softball, football, volleyball, lacrosse, track and field, and more.

The AAU is divided into regionals and districts. Next Level Basketball AAU is part of the Mid-Atlantic region which includes Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, West Virginia and North Carolina Within the Mid-Atlantic region there are a total of 12 districts. Next Level Basketball AAU belongs to District 3 which includes Northern Virginia and the DC Metro area.

NLBA teams have won numerous district and Regional Championships over the years and have competed at the AAU National Championships multiple times. Our goal is always to field teams that can compete at the highest levels and our players have done an outstanding job of representing NLBA on the court.

The second tier consists of more developmental squads, which typically play in regional tournaments.
