What to watch for tonight

The Nit continues tonight with four more games. Here’s what to watch for:

Two of the best defenses in the country will be on display when Arizona takes on Texas A&M. The Wildcats are only allowing opponents to score 58.4 points per game while the Aggies are not far behind at 59.2. This should be a low-scoring affair, and it will be interesting to see which team can find a way to get some points on the board.

Another tough defensive matchup will pit Notre Dame against Penn State The Nittany Lions have been fantastic on the defensive end of the court, holding opponents to just 60.8 points per game Notre Dame is not far behind at 61.6, so we could be in for another low-scoring affair.

We should see a lot of points scored in the game between Marquette and Oregon, as both teams like to play at a fast pace. The Golden Eagles are averaging 78 points per game while the Ducks are putting up 75.4 points per contest. This should be an entertaining game to watch, and it will be interesting to see which team can come out on top in a high-scoring affair.

Conference races

The National Invitation Tournament (NIT) is a single-elimination tournament played each spring in New York City by 32 NCAA Division I college basketball teams that did not make the 68-team NCAA tournament field.

First held in 1938, the NIT was created by the Metropolitan basketball writers Association as a way to give basketball’s top teams one final chance to prove themselves on the court. Over time, the NIT has come to be synonymous with March Madness and it now serves as a valuable stepping stone for many programs on their way to becoming NCAA contenders.

Today, the NIT is organized and run by the NCAA. Selection for the tournament is based on regular-season records, Strength of Schedule and RPI rankings, and the field is typically made up of team’s that just missed out on an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament

The NIT consists of four rounds of play, with each round getting progressively more difficult. The first two rounds are held at campus sites, while the quarterfinals and semifinals take place at Madison Square Garden The NIT Championship game is also held at MSG, making it one of only two college basketball postseason tournaments (along with the NCAA Tournament) that ends its season at “The World’s Most Famous Arena.”

National storylines

The college Basketball season is in Full Swing and there are plenty of intriguing storylines to follow around the country. Here are a few of the biggest ones.

In the ACC, Duke looks like the team to beat once again. The Blue Devils have started the season 11-1 and are ranked No. 1 in the AP poll. They have a talented roster that includes freshman phenom Zion Williamson and they’ve already beaten some tough opponents, including Kentucky and Texas Tech

Another team to watch in the ACC is Louisville. The Cardinals are 10-2 and ranked No. 11 in the AP poll. They have a strong nucleus of players back from last year’s team that made the NCAA Tournament and they’ve already beaten Michigan State and Indiana this season.

In the Big Ten Michigan looks like the team to beat at this point. The Wolverines are 11-0 and ranked No. 2 in the AP poll. They have a balanced roster that features plenty of scoring threats, and they’ve already beaten some good teams, including North Carolina and Purdue.

There are also some other good teams in the Big Ten to keep an eye on, including Wisconsin (10-2), Purdue (10-2), and Michigan State (9-3).

In the Pac-12, it’s been a down year so far as no team has really stood out as a contender for the conference title Arizona State is 9-3 and currently leads the conference at 2-0, but there are plenty of other teams right behind them that could make a run at the title.
