Rivalries are a big part of High School basketball, and North Oconee is no exception. The three biggest rivalries for the Titans are against crosstown foe Oconee County High School fellow Region 8-AAA foe Winder-Barrow high school and nearby Jefferson high school

The Oconee County rivalry is the oldest and most well-known, dating back to the early days of the two schools. The two schools are only a few miles apart, and the fans are very passionate about their team. The games are always close, and the atmosphere is electric.

The Winder-Barrow rivalry is a bit newer, but it has quickly become one of the most intense in the state. The two teams are evenly matched, and the games are always hotly contested. The fans from both sides travel well, and the atmosphere at these games is always electric.

The Jefferson rivalry is the newest of the three, but it has quickly become one of the most heated. The two teams are located only a few miles apart, and they have been competing for bragging rights since they first met on the court. In 2017, the North Oconee basketball team made school history by winning the Georgia high school Association Class AAA state championship This was the first time a public high school in Athens-Clarke County had ever won a State basketball title. The team finished the season with a 27-3 record and was ranked #1 in Class AAA by the Georgia Sportswriters Association.

The team is coached by Nathan Black and consists of 12 players, all of whom contributed to the championship season. The starting lineup for the 2017 season included seniors Malik Dunbar, Jared Harper, and Jaylen Brown junior Tyree Crump, and sophomore Isaac Hitt.

The North Oconee basketball team has continued their success in recent years making it to the Elite Eight in 2018 and 2019. With a core group of talented younger players, the team looks poised to make another run at a state championship in the near future.

Wesley Durden – Senior (6’0″ Guard)

Durden is the Heart and Soul of this team. He is a great leader and an even better player. He can do it all on the court, and he will be one of the best players in the state next season.

Isaiah Johnson – Junior (6’2″ Forward)

Johnson is a fantastic athlete who can score, rebound, and block shots He has improved his outside shot over the past year, and he should be one of the leading scorers on this team next season.

Tyler Perry – Junior (6’5″ Center)

Perry is a big body who can clog up the lane on defense and score down low on offense. He needs to work on his conditioning, but he has all the tools to be a great player.
