Basketball is a sport that is played by two teams of five players each on a rectangular court. The object of the game is to score points by shooting a ball through a hoop (the basket) raised 10 feet above the ground at each end of the court. Players score points by shooting the ball through the basket from anywhere on the court. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Basketball was invented in 1891 by James Naismith a physical education teacher in Springfield, Massachusetts, who was looking for an indoor sport to keep his students fit during the cold New England winters. The game is also divided into four quarters, each lasting ten minutes. At the end of each quarter, the team with the most points scores another point for their team. If both teams are tied at the end of regulation time, then there will be Overtime periods until one team finally emerges victorious.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is an American history museum and Hall of Fame located at 1000 Hall of Fame Avenue in Springfield, Massachusetts. It serves as the sport’s most complete library, in addition to promoting and preserving the history of basketball.
