Team Statistics

In baseball, the statistical Triple Crown refers to the feat of leading a league in three specific statistical categories in the same season. The batting Triple Crown categories are batting average home runs and runs batted in (RBI); in pitching, the Triple Crown categories are wins, earned run average (ERA), and strikeouts. These statistics have been tracked by baseball analysts and commentators for over a century.

Player Statistics

In order to compile these statistics, we consulted the official Pepperdine baseball website as well as baseball-reference.com. We included every player who appeared in at least one game for Pepperdine this season, regardless of year in school. BABIP (batting average on Balls In Play) and WAR (Wins Above Replacement) are both sabermetric statistical measures.

The Pepperdine University baseball program is steeped in tradition, with a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. The program has produced numerous Major League Baseball players, including two-time World Series champion Bryan Harvey and All-Star second baseman Steve Sax

Upcoming Games

The Pepperdine Waves baseball team is set to take on the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans in a three-game series this weekend. The games will be played Friday, April 5 at 6:00pm, Saturday, April 6 at 1:00pm, and Sunday, April 7 at 1:00pm. All games will be held at USC’s Dedeaux Field and will be broadcasted on the Pac-12 Network.

Alumni in the Pros

Since Pepperdine baseball’s inception in 1973, 139 Waves have gone on to play professional baseball As of the 2019 season, there are 31 former Waves in affiliated minor League Baseball four in independent minor league baseball and one Major League baseball player In addition, 104 Pepperdine alumni have played in foreign professional leagues.

The first alumnus to make it to the Major Leagues was Rick honeycutt in 1978. Honeycutt pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers for 17 seasons (1978-1994), compiling a record of 196-173 with 2,303 strikeouts and a 3.66 ERA. He was a two-time All-Star (1986, 1988) and finished his career with 1,024 games pitched, which ranks 21st all-time among left-handers.

The team has won the conference title 19 times and made the NCAA tournament 28 times. In addition to their on-field success, the Waves have also produced 85 Major League baseball players including All-Stars Chase Utley and Mark Teixeira
