This will be the first meeting between the two teams since January 6th, 2017, when Pepperdine came out on top with a final score of 74-67. The Waves will look to replicate their success from three years ago against a Trojan team that went 16-17 last season and finished tied for seventh place in the Pac-12 conference.

USC will be led by junior guard Jonah Mathews, who averaged 13.6 points per game last season and was named to the All-Pac-12 honorable mention list. The Trojans will also return senior forward Nick Rakocevic, who averaged a double-double last year with 11.9 points and 10.2 rebounds per game Rakocevic’s return gives USC a much needed boost in the front court as they lost forward Bennie Boatwright and center Jordan Usher to graduation.

The Waves will counter with a young but experienced team, as they only have two seniors on their roster. Junior guard Colbey Ross is coming off of a breakout sophomore campaign in which he averaged 17 points and 4 assists per game while being named to the All-West Coast Conference first team. He will be joined in the backcourt by sophomore guard Kessler Edwards, who showed flashes of brilliance last season as he averaged 9 points and 4 rebounds per game while shooting almost 42% from three-point range

Up front, junior forwards Kameron Edwards and Eric Cooper Jr. will look to build off of their strong performances from last year when they both averaged over 12 points per game while shooting over 50% from the field. They will be joined by talented freshman big men Luke Edwards (Kameron’s brother) and Goldand Bolden III as they provide depth in the front court for the Waves.

Pepperdine head coach Lorenzo Romar enters his third season with high expectations for his team as they were picked to finish second in the West Coast Conference preseason poll behind only reigning conference champion Gonzaga University.
