Pima Community College’s men’s Basketball team is headed to the NCAA tournament! The team has a record of 27-5 and is ranked No. 24 in the nation. The Aztecs will face off against No. 9 seed University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in the first round on Thursday, March 15.
This is the first time Pima has made it to the NCAA tournament since the school was founded in 1966. Head Coach Brian Peabody is in his first season with the team, and has led them to an impressive 27-5 record.
The Aztecs have been strong all season, with their only losses coming against four other teams that are also headed to the NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed Gonzaga, No. 4 seed Arizona, No. 6 seed New Mexico State and No. 8 seed UC Santa Barbara
Pima has a tough matchup ahead of them in Wisconsin-Green Bay but with their strong record and nationally ranked status, the Aztecs have a good chance of making some noise in the NCAA tournament!

The team, which finished the regular season with a 27-5 record, is seeded fifth in the tournament and will face off against 12th-seeded Rocky Mountain College in the first round.
This will be Pima’s first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2014, when they made it to the second round.
Head coach Matt Steinmetz is excited for his team to have this opportunity.
“We’re extremely proud of our guys and what they’ve accomplished this season,” Steinmetz said. “To be able to go out and compete on a national stage is a great opportunity for our program.”

Pima will be the No. 15 seed in the West Region and will take on No. 2 seed University of Arizona in the first round on Thursday, March 15 at 4:15 p.m. at McKale Center in Tucson.
It will be the sixth time Pima has faced Arizona in basketball and first time since Nov. 30, 2009 when the Aztecs lost 85-53 at McKale Center.
