Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 3B, Toronto Blue Jays The son of a Hall of Famer, Guerrero Jr. lived up to the hype in his first full season of pro ball, hitting .381/.437/.636 with 20 home runs in 95 games between High-A andDouble-A. He’s now the consensus top prospect in baseball and should be up with the Blue Jays at some point this season.

He’s undersized for a shortstop at just 6-foot-0, 175 pounds, but he has the tools to be a star at the position. Tatis is currently injured (stress reaction in his lower back), but he should be back later this spring and is expected to start the season in Triple-A.

Nick Senzel, 3B, Cincinnati Reds The third overall pick in the 2016 draft, Senzel missed most of last season due to vertigo but he’s healthy now and ready to resume his climb up the prospect ranks. He hit .310/.378/.509 with 14 homers and 13 stolen bases in 2017 between High-A and Double-A and is one of the few true five-tool prospects in baseball. The top 5 Overall prospects

In baseball, a prospect is a minor league player who is expected to become a Major League player. The term “prospect” is used in different ways in different parts of the sport. In some cultures, “prospect” carries a negative connotation, suggesting that the player in question will never make it to the Major Leagues In others, it is simply seen as a fact of the sport; every year, hundreds of young men are drafted or sign professional contracts with the hope of someday reaching the Major Leagues and every year only a handful of them succeed.

Prospect Wire Baseball operates under the latter definition. We believe that every prospect has the potential to make it to the majors, and we work tirelessly to promote them all.

With that said, there are always going to be some prospects who stand out above the rest. Here are our top 5 overall prospects for the 2019 season:

1. Adonis Medina, RHP, Philadelphia Phillies
2. MacKenzie Gore, LHP, San Diego Padres
