He was drafted in the first round of the 2001 NBA draft with the 13th overall pick by the Houston Rockets but was immediately traded to the New Jersey Nets
After two seasons with the Nets, he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in 2003, where he won his first and only NBA Championship in 2005. He spent nine seasons with the Spurs before being traded to the Golden State Warriors in 2012. He spent two seasons with the Warriors before signing with the Mavericks in 2014. He was traded back to the Nets in 2016, and he announced his retirement from Professional Basketball in 2018.
Jefferson was a two-time All-Star, and he won an Olympic gold medal as a member of Team USA at the 2008 Summer Olympics

He was drafted in the first round of the 2001 NBA Draft with the 13th overall pick by the Houston Rockets but was traded shortly thereafter to the New Jersey Nets Jefferson spent his first five seasons in New Jersey, where he averaged double figures in scoring and helped lead them to consecutive NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003. He was traded mid-season in 2006 to the Milwaukee Bucks and averaged over 20 points per game there before being dealt again, this time to the San Antonio Spurs in 2009. With the Spurs, Jefferson won an NBA Championship in 2014. He has also been a member of USA Basketball winning a gold medal in Olympic play in 2008.
