The SPHL was formed in 2004 as a reaction to the folding of several high-level minor hockey leagues within the region, most notably the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and the Atlantic Coast Hockey League (ACHL). The league’s first season of operation was in 2005-06, and its first champions were the Pensacola Ice Pilots.

Since then, two additional teams have joined the league – the Mississippi RiverKings and the Huntsville Havoc – while two other teams – the Augusta Lynx and Pensacola Ice Pilots – have ceased operations.

3) The Fayetteville FireAntz had high expectations coming into the season but failed to meet them, finishing fourth in their division with a record of 27-36-7.

Byfuglien’s 30 goals were the most among SPHL defensemen while Csorich’s 24 goals tied him for the team lead in scoring with Hauswirth. Dolan was among the league leaders in plus/minus rating with a +32 whileGalardi had a league leading 2.42 GAA and .917 save percentage

The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) is a professional Ice hockey league that operates in the southeastern United States The SPHL currently has nine member teams: the Augusta RiverHawks, Birmingham Bulls, Huntsville Havoc, Knoxville Ice Bears, Mississippi RiverKings, Pensacola Ice Flyers, Pensacola Ice Pilots, Quad City Storm and Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.
