The Rivalries

The Rivalries
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) is one of the most competitive conferences in NCAA Division II baseball. Within the conference, there are a few heated rivalries. Here are some games to look out for this season:

Slippery Rock vs. West Chester – These two teams have been dominant in the PSAC for the last couple years. They are both perennial contenders for the conference title They have met in the PSAC Tournament Championship game 3 times in the last 5 years, with Slippery Rock winning twice. This is always a great series to watch.

Slippery Rock vs. Mercyhurst – These two teams are located only about 30 miles apart, so there is always a big crowd and a lot of energy when they play each other. The games are usually very close and always seem to come down to the wire. This is another great rivalry series to watch.

Slippery Rock vs. Edinboro – This is a newer rivalry, as Edinboro only joined the PSAC in 2013. But, these two teams have developed a strong dislike for each other over the last few years. The games are usually very intense and there is always a lot on the line when they play each other.

The Ballpark

The SRU Baseball Schedule Games to Watch This Season is a great way to get your baseball fix this season. The home of the SRU Baseball Team is The Ballpark, which is located in downtown Pittsburgh. The ballpark has a capacity of 10,000 people and features a variety of foods and drinks.

The History

SRU baseball has been a Division I program since 1971. They have had 31 winning seasons and 3 trips to the NCAA tournament in that time. The program has seen some Great players come through its ranks, including future MLB All-Stars Jim Eisenreich and Brad Lidge.

The Media

The Media has a big influence over which games the general public will watch. The number of people who tuned into the 2014 World Series dropped by 20% from the previous year. In 2012, when the San Francisco Giants won the World Series it was the lowest rated Championship in history. One reason for this was that there were no East Coast teams in the play-offs that year. This year, there are 3 teams from the East Coast in the playoffs, which should increase viewership.
