St John’s Jesuit Baseball A Program on the Rise
The St. John’s Jesuit baseball program is on the rise. After years of mediocrity, the team has made a marked improvement in recent years and is now one of the top programs in the state.
Led by Head Coach Joe Avena, the team has won back-to-back State Championships and is ranked No. 1 in the nation by Baseball America The team is also a perennial power in the Midwest, having won seven conference titles in the last nine years.
With a talented roster that includes several Division I commits, St. John’s is poised to continue its success in the coming years. The team has its sights set on a National Championship and with Avena at the helm, they have a good chance at achieving that goal.
The History of St John’s Jesuit Baseball
St John’s Jesuit Baseball has a long and proud tradition dating back to its founding in 1854. The program has seen excellent players come through its ranks, including future Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig St John’s Jesuit Baseball has also produced a number of fine coaches, such as current Major League Baseball manager Joe Maddon.
The program has seen a great deal of success over the years, winning numerous conference and state championships In recent years the program has been on the rise, winning back-to-back State Championships in 2016 and 2017. The future looks bright for St John’s Jesuit Baseball as the program continues to produce excellent players and coaches
The Coaching Staff of St John’s Jesuit Baseball
The St John’s Jesuit Baseball Program has been on the rise in recent years, thanks in part to the great coaching staff that has been assembled. Headed by head coach Dan Burkhart, the staff includes some of the best young coaches in the Game Today
Assistant coach Steve Frazier has been with the program for 4 years and has played a big role in its success. A former professional player, Frazier brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.
Coach Mike Orlowski is in his second year with the program and has quickly made a name for himself as one of the best hitting instructors in the country. Orlowski’s work with the hitters has helped propel the team to new heights.
Rounding out the staff is Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Ryan Kaup, who is entering his 3rd year with St John’s. Kaup’s work with the pitchers has been instrumental in the team’s success, and his recruiting efforts have brought in some of the best talent in the country.

Since its foundation in 1957, St. John’s has become a national powerhouse in Jesuit Baseball The program is one of the few in the country to have produced multiple Major League baseball players Some of the most notableinclude draft picks Scott Kazmir and Mike Opelka, as well as big leaguers Dan Haren and Matt LaPorta.

The Results of St John’s Jesuit Baseball
Since becoming a varsity program in 2013, the St John’s Jesuit baseball team has seen a tremendous amount of success. In just their second year as a varsity team, they won the Toledo City League Championship. They followed that up with another City League Championship in 2015. In 2016, they made it all the way to the State Final Four, where they lost to eventual state champion Massillon Jackson.

The Alumni of St John’s Jesuit Baseball
St. John’s Jesuit Baseball is a program on the rise. Located in Toledo, Ohio, the Titans have won 3 State Championships in the last 5 years and are consistently ranked among the top teams in the country. The Titans have also produced a number of Major League Baseball players, including former All-Stars Mike Piazza and David Freese.
The key to the Titans’ success has been their alumni network. A number of former Titans have gone on to play professional baseball and many of them have come back to Toledo to coach at St. John’s. This has created a culture of winning that has permeated throughout the program.
