Stanford Baseball Headed to Regional

The Stanford baseball team is headed to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship Regional for the first time since 2008 after being selected as one of 16 host sites for the tournament. The regional will be held at Sunken Diamond from May 30-June 2.

This marks the third time in program history that Stanford has been selected as a regional host and the tenth time overall that the Cardinal has earned a berth in the tournament.

The selection of Stanford as a regional host is another sign of the continued success of the baseball program under Head Coach Mark Marquess. In his 41st season at the helm of the Cardinal, Marquess has led Stanford to 21 conference championships and 17 trips to the postseason, including 12 appearances in the College World Series

The Cardinal (31-22) will travel to Corvallis, Oregon, to face off against No. 1 overall seed Oregon State (48-10) in the first round of the tournament. The game will be played on Friday at 7 p.m. PT.

Also in the Corvallis Regional are No. 2 seed Nebraska (34-20) and No. 3 seed Holy Cross (27-26).

The winner of the four-team, double-elimination regional will advance to a best-of-three Super Regional next week, with a trip to the College World Series on the line.

The Cardinal (45-11) will be the No. 2 seed in the four-team, double-elimination Corvallis Regional, hosted by Oregon State Stanford will open against No. 3 seed UC Santa Barbara (39-19) on Friday at 7 p.m. PT. The Gauchos beat Ole Miss in Monday’s play-in game.

No. 1 seed Oregon State (47-10) will face off against Holy Cross (27-29) in Friday’s other first-round game at noon PT. All games in the regional will be streamed live on ESPN3/WatchESPN.

This is Stanford’s 39th appearance in the NCAA tournament and 27th regional berth. The Cardinal have advanced to 14 College World Series winning national titles in 1987 and ’88.

Stanford will take on No. 3 seed Arkansas (39-19) on Friday Night (8 p.m., PT) in the second game of the regional. The Razorbacks are making their 23rd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, but just their second since 2009.

This will be the Cardinal’s 32nd appearance in the tournament and their first since 2008. They will be one of 16 seeded teams in the tournament and will host a four-team, double-elimination regional at Sunken Diamond beginning on Friday, May 31.

The Cardinal (37-17) will be the No. 2 seed in the four-team, double-elimination regional that will be hosted by Cal State Fullerton (39-17) at Goodwin Field. Also in the regional are No. 3 seed Pepperdine (34-22) and No. 4 seed Omaha (30-24).

The Fullerton regional will begin on Friday, May 31, with Stanford playing Pepperdine at 7 p.m. PT. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.

The Stanford Baseball Team will travel to Los Angeles to participate in the NCAA Tournament Regional, hosted by UCLA, it was announced Monday.

This is the fourth consecutive year and the 10th time in the last 11 seasons that the Cardinal (37-16) has made the 64-team NCAA field. Stanford is one of four Pac-12 teams included in this year’s tournament.

“We’re excited to be heading back to LA,” said Stanford head coach Mark Marquess. “It’s a great city and our guys have always enjoyed playing there. We’re looking forward to getting started on Friday.”

The Cardinal will open the double-elimination tournament against Sacramento State (32-24) on Friday, June 1 at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
