What this means for the program

The McDonald’s All-American designation is one of the most prestigious in high school basketball. It’s a huge honor for any player to be named a McDonald’s All-American, and it’s an even bigger deal for a program like Kentucky to have three players from its recruiting class earn the honor.

Being named a McDonald’s All-American is a significant accomplishment for any player, but it’s especially meaningful for Kentucky because the Wildcats are one of the few programs in the country that can consistently attract top-tier talent. Having three McDonald’s All-Americans in the same Recruiting Class is a testament to Kentucky’s stature in the college basketball world, and it gives the Wildcats a leg up on the competition when it comes to recruiting.

Why this is a big deal

The McDonald’s All-American game is a High School basketball All-Star Game that is annually held at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The game features the top 36 boys High school basketball players in the United States who are selected from more than 2,000 nominees.

Of the more than 700,000 high school basketball players in the United States only a small handful are selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American game. Being named a McDonald’s All-American is a huge honor, and it’s a big deal for any college basketball program to have even one player on the team.

For the University of Kentucky men’s Basketball team this year’s McDonald’s All-American game will be extra special. That’s because the Wildcats have not one, not two, but three players on the team: point guard Immanuel Quickley, shooting guard Tyler Herro and small forward Keldon Johnson.

It’s rare for any college basketball team to have more than one player on the McDonald’s All-American Team so having three is an incredible accomplishment. It shows just how much talent John Calipari has recruited to Kentucky, and it gives Wildcat fans even more reason to be excited about next season.

How this impacts next season

The McDonald’s All-American game is considered one of the premier high school basketball events in the country and the three Ku signees —⁣
Ochai Agbaji Devon Dotson and David McCormack —⁣
gave Kansas its 20th consecutive year with at least one player in the game.

In addition, this marks the ninth straight season that Kansas has had multiple players in the McDonald’s All-American game.

The next question becomes how this impacts next season for Bill Self and the Jayhawks.

Having three McDonald’s All-Americans on your roster is always a good thing, but it doesn’t guarantee success. Just look at last year’s team that had five-star recruits Billy Preston and Silvio De Sousa but failed to make the NCAA tournament

However, this Kansas team will be different. They will have experience with guys like Marcus Garrett and Udoka Azubuike returning, which should help them avoid some of the freshman mistakes that plagued last year’s team.

In addition, all three of these freshmen have the potential to be one-and-done players, meaning they will only be around for one season. This could give Kansas an advantage as they will have more experienced players while other teams are relying heavily on freshmen.

It will be interesting to see how these three young men impact next season and if they can help lead Kansas back to the Final Four.
