As the regular season winds down and the playoffs loom, it’s a good time to take a look at the Troy baseball roster and see how the team is shaping up. The Trojans have been one of the most surprising teams in college baseball this season, and they’ll be looking to make some noise in the postseason.

This is a team that is built around its pitching staff. The Trojans have a deep rotation that features a mix of experience and youth. Senior ace Blake Birchfield has been the team’s most consistent starter all season, and he’ll be looking to lead the way in the postseason. The rest of the rotation is filled out by junior Ryan Dunn sophomore Connor Jones and freshman Chase Adkins. All four pitchers have shown flashes of brilliance this season, and they’ll need to be at their best if Troy wants to make a run in the playoffs.

The Trojan lineup isn’t overly impressive on paper, but they’ve been getting the job done all season long Senior third baseman Austin Pritcher has been the team’s best hitter all year, batting .338 with eight home runs and 38 RBIs. Pritcher will be joined in the middle of the Troy lineup by senior first baseman Jordan Anderson and junior catcher Mitchell McMullen. Anderson has been solid all season, batting .294 with six home runs while McMullen has emerged as one of the team’s top power hitters hitting .276 with nine home runs

The rest of the Troy lineup is filled out by a mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen. Senior second baseman Reese Cooley has been a steadying force atop the lineup all season, while freshman outfielder Jayden353 Woodsey has been one of the team’s most dynamic players. Woodsey is batting .333 with eight stolen bases and he provides a spark at the top of the Troy lineup.

The Trojans will be looking to ride their pitching staff to success in the postseason. If their bats can come alive like they have at times this season, Troy could be dangerous in the coming weeks.

The Roster

The Troy Baseball Team is made up of 29 players, with 28 of them being American born and 1 from Cuba. The roster is split evenly between pitchers and Position players with 14 of each. The team has no seniors, 11 juniors, 10 sophomores, and 8 freshmen. Here is a list of the position players on the roster:

The Infield

The infield is the part of the baseball diamond where the batter and catcher stand, as well as the innermost part of the field. It usually consists of four positions: first base, second base, third base, and shortstop. The first baseman occupies first base, the second baseman is stationed at second base, the third baseman plays third base, and the shortstop occupies shortstop.

The Outfield

The outfield is typically composed of three players: Left fielder center fielder, and right fielder. The left and right fielders together are often referred to as the corner outfielders, while the center fielder is the middle outfielder. Each outfielder is assigned to protect a specific area of the field. Outfielders must be able to judge where the ball will fall in order to catch it or prevent it from hitting the ground. They also must be able to throw the ball accurately and quickly to whichever infielder is closest to the person they are trying to get out.

In baseball, speed is key. The ability to run down a fly ball or hustle out a hit safely to second base can make or break an inning for a team. With this in mind, teams will often times put their best athletes in the outfield where they can utilize their speed and quickness to their advantage.

The Pitchers

The Troy baseball team has a great pitching lineup this year. The starting pitchers are:

The team’s bullpen is strong, too, with several experienced pitchers. The list includes:

-Set-up man

There are also a few young pitchers on the roster who have the potential to be great. They just need some more experience.

The Catchers

There are three catchers on the Troy baseball team They are all seniors and have been with the team for four years.

The catchers are:
-Tyler Crockett
-Blake Johnson
-Dylan Moore

All of the catchers are right-handed. Tyler Crockett is the most experienced catcher, having started in 44 games over his career. Blake Johnson has started in 22 games, while Dylan Moore has only started in 12 games.

The Bench

The Troy Baseball Team has a strong bench this season with a mix of experienced veterans and young up-and-comers. The bench will be key in late-game situations and will provide a spark off the bench.

The veterans on the bench include infielder/outfielder Ryan Polselli, who is in his fourth year with the team, and catcher Matt McGuire, who is in his third season. Both players have seen significant playing time in their careers and will be called upon to provide leadership and stability when they are called upon to enter the game.

The young players on the bench include infielder/outfielder Jake Fromm and catcher/infielder Sam Powell. Fromm is a rookie who was drafted in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Troy Trojans Powell is a sophomore who transferred to Troy from Tallahassee Community College Both players are expected to see significant playing time this season and will be key contributors off the bench.

The Coaches

The Troy Baseball team has a long and successful history. The team has won five State Championships and made it to the playoffs nineteen times. The team is coached by two brothers, Mark and Matt Bloom Mark is the Head Coach and has been with the team for twelve years. Matt is the Assistant Coach and has been with the team for six years.

The Coaching Staff is rounded out by pitching coach, Steve Hermes, who has been with the team for four years, and hitting coach, Josh Hamilton who is in his first year with the team.

The Fans

The Troy baseball team is made up of some of the most talented and dedicated athletes in the country. But, the team would be nothing without its fans. The fans are the Heart and Soul of the team and provide them with the support they need to succeed both on and off the field.

Without the fans, the team would not be able to continue its tradition of excellence. The fans provide the team with a sense of community and pride that is unmatched anywhere else. They are passionate about their team and are always there to support them, no matter what.

The fans are an important part of what makes the Troy baseball team so special. They are what make the team unique and make it possible for them to achieve greatness.
