Introducing the Upper Iowa Peacocks

The Upper Iowa Peacocks are a NCAA Division I basketball team representing Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. The Peacocks compete in the Missouri Valley Conference and play their home games at the UIU Sports and Recreation Center.

Entering the 2019-20 season the Peacocks are coming off a historic campaign in which they won their first ever Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship and earned their first ever berth in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament Led by Head Coach Ben Jacobson, the Peacocks have quickly become one of the top mid-major programs in the country.

The team’s rise to prominence has been driven by a core group of talented players, including All-American guard AJ Green and MVC Defensive Player of the Year Tywhon Pickford. With several Key Players returning for the 2019-20 season, the Peacocks are poised for another deep run in the NCAA tournament

Upper Iowa basketball A Closer Look

Upper Iowa Basketball is a team on the rise. head coach Troylogan Simon has led the Peacocks to back-to-back winning seasons and has the program headed in the right direction.

This season, Upper Iowa will look to improve upon its 13-14 record from a year ago and make a push for a conference title The Peacocks will be led by senior guard Braylon Pickett, who averaged 15 points per game last season. Other key returners include junior forward Joe Johnson and senior center Tony Simon.

The Peacocks will have their work cut out for them in conference play but with continued improvement, they should be in contention for a conference title.

The Peacocks in the Community

Upper Iowa University’s men’s basketball team The Peacocks, have been making a name for themselves on and off the court. In addition to their successful season in which they had an impressive 20-5 record, the team has been giving back to the community. They have volunteered at soup kitchens, food banks, andlocal elementary schools. Coach Tony Benford spoke about the importance of giving back, saying “It’s very important for our guys to be involved in the community and to give back. That’s one of the things we talk about with our team is that we’re not just basketball players we’re community leaders as well.” The team has definitely been living up to that expectation!

The team has a good mix of experience and youth, with several key players who have been with the team for several years. Pannell has instilled a winning culture in his team, and they have bought into his system. The results have been evident on the court, as Upper Iowa has won more games in each of the past three seasons.

We are proud to say that we finished the season with a winning record of 17-15, and we made it to the semifinals of the Midwest Collegiate conference tournament We are looking forward to continuing our momentum into next season and beyond, and we hope that you will continue to support us along the way.
