The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team will play 36 regular season home games at Skyhawk Field this season, with the first pitch of the year set for Friday, February 14 at 3 p.m. against Oral Roberts

The Skyhawks will host 19 three-game weekend series this season, highlighted by visits from Ohio Valley Conference foes Murray State (April 3-5), Austin Peay (April 17-19) and Jacksonville State (May 8-10).

The Venue

The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team will call Skyhawk Field their home for the 2019 season. The venue, located on the main campus of UT Martin in Martin, Tenn., underwent a $500,000 facelift in the fall of 2018 that included installation of a new artificial turf playing surface. The turf was installed by Mid-SouthSynthetic Turf out of Memphis.

The History

Baseball has been a part of the University of Tennessee at Martin campus for over 100 years. The first recorded game played by the school was in 1913 against Mangum College (now Rhodes College). From 1913 to 1957, the program was a club sport, run by students with no financial support from the University. In 1957, UT Martin became a NCAA Division II school and began offering baseball as a varsity sport. The program moved to NCAA Division I in 1981.

The Rivalry

The University of Tennessee at Martin (UT Martin) Skyhawks baseball team will take on the University of Memphis Tigers in a three-game series this weekend, with the first matchup Friday evening. The two schools are only separated by about an hour drive, making this an in-state rivalry.

The second game of the series will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. and the final game on Sunday has been moved up to 11 a.m. due to the threat of rain in the forecast. Sunday’s game will also be broadcasted on ESPNU.
