Valparaiso Basketball Roster Key Players

With any college basketball team there are always a few Key Players that help lead the team to victory. These are the players that fans tend to know the most about and who receive the most recognition. The following is a list of key players on the Valparaiso University Basketball team

– Bryce Drew: He is a junior guard who was named the Horizon League Player of the Year in 2016. He is one of the team’s most accurate three-point shooters and is also very good at driving to the basket.

– Alec Peters: He is a senior forward who was named first-team All-Horizon League in 2016. He is Valpo’s leading scorer and rebounder and is also a very good three-point shooter.

– Shane Hammink: He is a senior forward who provides a lot of energy off the bench. He is a very good rebounder and shot blocker and can also score when called upon.

This season, the Valparaiso Crusaders men’s basketball team has six newcomers. Here is a brief introduction to the new guys on the team:

Peyton Aldridge is a 6’9”, 200 lb. Power Forward from Davidson, North Carolina He was a three-time all-state selection in High School and was named conference player of the year as a senior.

Joey Cantrell is a 6’4”, 185 lb. shooting guard from Greenwood, Indiana. He averaged 15 points, six rebounds and three assists per game as a senior in high school

Derrik Smits is a 7’1”, 250 lb. center from Zionsville, Indiana. He was named all-state as a senior after averaging 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks per game.

Max Joseph is a 6’3”, 180 lb. point guard from Orlando, Florida. He helped lead his high school team to a state championship as a junior and was named all-conference as a senior.

Martrez Walker is a 6’6”, 195 lb. small forward from Chicago, Illinois. He was an all-conference selection in high school after averaging 16 points and eight rebounds per game as a senior.

Micah Bradford is a 6’8” 235 lb., power forward from Louisville, Kentucky. He was named conference player of the year as a senior after averaging 18 points and nine rebounds per game

Valparaiso Basketball Roster Position Breakdown

The Valparaiso Crusaders men’s basketball team is composed of student-athletes who attend Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. The team competes in the NCAA Division I and is a member of the Horizon League The Crusaders play their home games at the Athletics-Recreation Center (ARC), which has a capacity of 5,000 spectators.

The Crusaders have had two head coaches since joining the Horizon League in 2007: Matt Lottich and Bryce Drew. In their first season in the league, the Crusaders won the regular season championship and made it to the Championship game of the Horizon League tournament, where they lost to Butler. The following year, Valpo won the Horizon League tournament and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament In 2016, Valpo won the regular season championship again and made it to the semifinals of the conference tournament

The 2017-2018 team consists of 15 student-athletes, ranging in class from freshmen to seniors. Below is a breakdown of each player on the roster by position:

Valparaiso basketball roster Schedule

The Valparaiso University men’s Basketball team is scheduled to play 34 games this season – eight of which will be played on the road and 18 at home in the Athletics-Recreation Center. The Crusaders will face nine teams that participated in last season’s NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship including four that made it to the Sweet Sixteen

Brandonowell: A 6’7″ forward from Addison, Texas, Brandon spent last season at Ranger College where he was named a NJCAA All-American after averaging 18.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game He will have two years of eligibility remaining at Valpo beginning this season.

Derrik Smits: A 7’1″ center from Zionsville, Indiana, Derrik returns for his senior season after starting all 33 games for the Crusaders a year ago and averaging 10.2 points and 5 rebounds per contest while shooting 58 percent from the field. He will be one of the leaders of this year’s team as they look to make a run at the NCAA Tournament

Evan Boudreaux: A 6’8″ forward from Evanston, Illinois, Evan comes to Valpo after spending two years at Dartmouth College, where he was named Ivy League Player of the Year as a sophomore after averaging 17 points and 9 rebounds per game while shooting 54 percent from the field. He will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning this season.

GeorgeLombard: A 6’3″ guard from Chicago, Illinois, George is entering his senior season with the Crusaders after averaging 8 points and 2 rebounds per game while shooting 38 percent from three-point range last year as a junior.

Joe Burton: A 6’7″ forward from Indianapolis, Indiana, Joe is entering his senior season with the Crusaders after averaging 5 points and 4 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the field last year as a junior.

Javon Freeman-Liberty: A 6’5″ guard from Chicago, Illinois Javon comes to Valpo after spending one year at Vincennes University where he averaged 15 points and 5 rebounds per game while shooting 37 percent from three-point range.
