Vanderbilt Basketball A History of Success

Vanderbilt Basketball: A History of Success

Vanderbilt University has a long and storied history of basketball success. The men’s team has won 14 SEC championships and made 19 NCAA tournament appearances. The women’s team has been nearly as successful, winning 11 SEC championships and making 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Vanderbilt is one of only a handful of schools to have both its men’s and women’s teams ranked in the top 25 of the AP Poll at the same time. In fact, the school has been ranked in the top 25 in each of the last five seasons.

Despite all this success, Vanderbilt has never won a National Championship in basketball. The men’s team came close in 1965, losing to UCLA in the finals. The women’s team has also come close, losing to Connecticut in the Championship game in 2004 and again in 2005.

With such a history of success, Vanderbilt fans have high hopes for the future.

Vanderbilt Basketball The Future is Bright

It’s no secret that the Vanderbilt Basketball Program has struggled over the past few years. The team has failed to make the NCAA tournament since 2015, and has won just one game in the tournament since 2008. Fans have been clamoring for a change, and it looks like they may finally get their wish.

In 2019, the school hired former Arizona State Head Coach Jerry Colangelo to serve as special advisor to the athletics department. Colangelo is a well-respected figure in the world of basketball, and his hiring signals a new commitment from the school to winning.

The team also has a new head coach in Bryce Drew. Drew is a young coach with fresh ideas, and he’s already made an impact on the program. Under his leadership, the team has improved its recruiting efforts and is beginning to develop a new identity.

With Colangelo and Drew at the helm, Vanderbilt basketball is finally beginning to head in the right direction. The future is bright for the Commodores, and fans can’t wait to see what this new era of success will bring.
