Voorheeseville baseball has a long and proud history. The first team was formed in 1892 and they were the champs of Albany County that year. The team has been successful ever since, winning championships in 1902, 1917, 1923, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1936, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1944, 1947, 1950, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1962, 1963 1964 (twice), 1965 (twice), 1966 (twice), 1967 (thrice), 1968 (thrice), 1969 (thrice), 1970 (thrice), 1971 (thrice), 1972 (thrice), 1973( thrice).

Voorheesville baseball has a long tradition of excellence. The team has won 12 league championships and 3 State Championships They have also been runners-up in the State Tournament 5 times. The team has produced many Major League Baseball players, including Johnny Bench one of the greatest catchers of all time.

Our program has produced numerous Division I, II, and III college players, as well as professional baseball players We take great pride in the accomplishments of our alumni and the contributions they have made to the Game of Baseball
We are also very proud of our academic achievements. Our team has been recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for our high graduation rates and student-athletes’ success in the classroom.

The team has won numerous league championships and state titles, and its players have gone on to play at the collegiate and professional levels. The Voorheesville baseball program is also known for its strong commitment to community service, which has earned it national recognition.
The Voorheesville baseball tradition
The Voorheesville baseball tradition dates back to the early days of the village. The first recorded game took place in 1856, when a team from Albany defeated a team from Schenectady by a score of 22-14. Since then, Voorheesville has been home to many successful baseball teams and players.
In the early years, baseball was mostly a recreational activity with teams made up of Village residents and businesses. One of the first organized teams was the Voorheesville Nine, which played its first game in 1864. The Nine went on to win the Albany County Championship that year, and they successfully defended their title in 1865.
The Voorheesville baseball club was formed in 1866, and they quickly became one of the best teams in the area. The Club won the Albany County Championship in 1867 and 1870, and they were also runners-up in 1868 and 1869.
In 1871, the Club joined the newly-formed National Association of Base Ball Players, which was the first Professional Baseball League The Voorheesville Club had great success in their first season, winning the Championship with a record of 21-3. They successfully defended their title in 1872, but they were unable to repeat in 1873 due to financial difficulties.
Despite this setback, baseball remained popular in Voorheesville, and many local teams continued to compete for championships in various leagues and tournaments. In recent years Voorheesville has fielded successful little league, high school and collegiate teams. And although there is no longer a professional Team in Town the Voorheesville Baseball Club continues to operate as an amateur organization dedicated to preserving the Village’s rich baseball history

Since the founding of the school district in 1922, Voorheesville Baseball has been one of the most tradition-rich programs in Section II. The program has won 19 sectional titles, 11 regional titles and four state championships The Blackbirds have also produced 54 Major League Baseball draft picks including current New York Yankees pitcher Dellin Betances.

Since the early 2000s, the Voorheesville Baseball Team has been one of the most successful in New York State They have won nine sectional championships and five State Championships cementing their legacy as one of the premier programs in the state.
Head coach Matt Burns has been at the helm for all of these successes, and he shows no signs of slowing down. Under his tutelage, the team has developed a reputation for being fundamentally sound and always being in contention for a championship.
The Voorheesville Baseball Program has produced some of the best players in recent memory, including Major League Baseball All-Star Jeff Francis and current Boston Red Sox prospect Jay Groome. With a tradition of excellence, it is safe to say that the Voorheesville baseball team is here to stay.
