The West Virginia Mountaineers men’s basketball team defeated the Pittsburgh Panthers 92-57 on Wednesday night at the Petersen Events Center. This is the first time that the Mountaineers have beaten the Panthers in their last five tries.

The Mountaineers were led by junior guard Miles McBride, who scored a career-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range to go along with five assists and four steals. Sophomore forward Derek Culver also had a big game scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season.

This win improves the Mountaineers’ record to 16-5 overall and 7-3 in the Big 12, while Pitt falls to 10-11 overall and 1-9 in conference play

The Mountaineers (9-4, 1-1 Big 12) were led by junior guard Miles McBride, who scored a game-high 22 points. McBride was 7-of-11 from the field, 3-of-6 from 3-point range and 5-of-5 from the Free Throw Line He also had four assists and three steals in 33 minutes of play.

Junior forward Derek Culver also had a strong game for the Mountaineers, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Culver was 6-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line He also had two assists and one steal in 26 minutes of play.

The win was a much-needed one for West Virginia who had lost two straight games coming into Saturday’s contest. The Mountaineers will look to build on their momentum when they take on Oklahoma State on Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. EST at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

The West Virginia University men’s basketball team topped Pitt 92-57 on Saturday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.

The Mountaineers (18-8, 8-6 Big 12) used a balanced scoring attack and stifling defense to snap a three-game losing streak and defeat their in-state rivals.

WVU was led by junior guard Chase Harler, who scored a career-high 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, to go along with four rebounds and two assists. Fellow junior guard Sean McNeil added 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, three rebounds and two assists, while freshman guard Jalen Bridges chipped in 11 points off the bench.

The Mountaineers’ defense was suffocating all afternoon, as they held the Panthers (12-15, 3-11 Big 12) to just 32.8% shooting from the field, including 4-of-[22] from 3-point range, and forced 16 turnovers.

WVU will return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Ames, Iowa, to take on Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on ESPN2.

WVU then put the game away in the second half with a dominating performance, outscoring Pitt 51-24 in the second half en route to the 92-57 victory.

WVU will now return home to host TCU on Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. ET.
