Get to Know the Youngstown State Basketball Roster

Get to know the 2017-2018 Youngstown State basketball roster with this quick guide. We’ll introduce you to the team and tell you a little bit about each player.

1. Darius Quisenberry

Darius Quisenberry, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound point guard from Youngstown, Ohio, is in his first season of collegiate basketball. Prior to joining the YSU program, he spent two seasons at Texas Tech University

A former three-star recruit according to 247Sports.com, Quisenberry was ranked as the No. 14 point guard in the country and the No. 2 player in the state of Ohio coming out of High School He played his prep career at Canton McKinley high school where he was a two-time All-Ohio selection. As a senior, he averaged 19 points, five rebounds and five assists per game

Quisenberry will have three years of eligibility remaining at YSU.

2. Gavin Ennis

Gavin Ennis is a 6-foot-9 center from Youngstown, Ohio. He played his collegiate basketball at small Division II school Malone University, located just south of Youngstown. As a senior, Gavin averaged 11 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks per game while shooting 54 percent from the field.

3. Naz Bohannon

Naz Bohannon is originally from Westerville, Ohio and is in his junior year playing for the Youngstown State University men’s basketball team He is 6 feet 5 inches tall and plays the Forward Position In his freshman and sophomore years, Bohannon averaged 4.8 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game

4. Michael Akuchie

Michael Akuchie was born in Youngstown, Ohio and is a 6’8” Power Forward He is a graduate of Cardinal Gibbons high school in Raleigh, North Carolina Akuchie played his freshman season of college basketball at Youngstown State before transferring to North Carolina Central. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

5. Donel Cathcart

Donel Cathcart is a 6-foot-7, 220-pound junior from Youngstown, Ohio. He transferred to YSU from Eastern Oklahoma A&M College. As a sophomore, he started all 30 games for the Golden Norsemen and averaged 12.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest. He was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the JUCO National Basketball Coaches Association and was an All-Region VI First Team selection.

6. Trey Diggs

Trey Diggs, a 6-foot, 5-inch guard/forward from Alliance, Ohio, is in his first season with the Youngstown State men’s Basketball team Diggs played one season at preparatory school and one season at Community College before transferring to YSU. As a Penguin, he has appeared in 14 games and is averaging 1.1 points per contest.

7. Jalen Robinson-Bryant

Jalen Robinson-Bryant (7) is a 6’8”, 225-pound forward from Detroit, Mich. He is entering his third season of eligibility with the Penguin basketball team As a junior, he averaged 1.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 62 games played

8. Terence Johnson

Terence Johnson is a guard on the Youngstown State Basketball team He is from Chicago, Illinois and is in his sophomore year at YSU. He stands at 6’3” and weighs 190 pounds. Johnson played in all 33 of the team’s games last season, starting 12 of them. He averaged 5.9 points and 2.1 assists per game

9. Garrett Covington

Garrett Covington is a 6-foot-6-inch, 205-pound redshirt sophomore guard from Toledo, Ohio. He attended Toledo St. John’s high school where he played basketball and football. Covington was a three-time district champion in basketball and was named first team All-District and second team All-Ohio as a senior. He played in the Ohio North/South All-Star game and was named MVP of the game after scoring 19 points. Covington also played football in high school and was named second team All-District as a wide receiver his senior year.

10. Jaden Ivey

Jaden Ivey is the son of Reggie Miller and played his high school basketball at La Lumiere School in LaPorte, Indiana. Ivey was a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 51 player in the 2020 class by ESPN. He committed to play college basketball at Purdue University As a freshman, Ivey averaged 11.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game
