The Blackhawks’ improbable run came to an end in the Stanley Cup Finals when they ran into a brick wall named goaltender Antti Niemi and lost to the Flyers in six games. The Ugly:
Finally, there have been a few ugly incidents in this year’s playoffs that have left fans shaking their heads. One of these was Dustin Penner’s goalmouth dive in game 6 between Anaheim and Nashville. With the score tied at 2 late in regulation, Penner appeared to dive towards Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne in an attempt to draw a penalty call. Luckily for Nashville, no call was made and they went on to win 3-2 in overtime. Another ugly incident took place in game 2 of Atlanta’s series against New Jersey when Thrashers forward Andrew Ladd blindsided Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov with a dangerous hit from behind. Ladd was given a 5 minute major penalty and ejected from the game, but somehow avoided any further discipline from the league.
