Who will take home the Cup this year?

The National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs are upon us, and the race to hoist the Stanley Cup is heating up!

There are a lot of strong teams this year, but there are a few that stand out above the rest. The Tampa Bay Lightning Nashville Predators Boston Bruins and Winnipeg Jets all had great regular seasons and are primed to make a run at the Cup.

The Lightning are perhaps the most dangerous team in the playoffs. They finished first in the league with 128 points and their +79 goal differential was far and away the best in the NHL. They have a deep roster full of stars like Nikita Kucherov, Victor Hedman and Steven Stamkos, who make them a force to be reckoned with.

The Predators have been one of the best teams in hockey over the past few years and they’re poised to make another deep run this year. Their top line of Filip Forsberg, Ryan Johansen and Viktor Arvidsson is as good as any in hockey, and they have solid secondary scoring as well. Defensively, they’re led by Roman Josi and P.K. Subban, two of the best blue-liners in the league. They also have great goaltending with Pekka Rinne, who has been one of the best keepers in hockey for years.

The Bruins were one of the best teams all season long finishing second in the league with 112 points. Their +44 goal differential was good for fourth best in hockey. The Bruins are led by superstar winger Brad Marchand as well as ageless wonder Patrice Bergeron. Marchand had 100 points this season while Bergeron wasn’t far behind with 84 points of his own. They also have excellent secondary scoring from their top-six forwards and good goaltending from Tuukka Rask.

The Jets had a great season as well, finishing third in the league with 107 points. Like Tampa Bay they boast a potent offence led by Mark Scheifele, Blake Wheeler and Patrik Laine. Wheeler had 91 points this year while Scheifele had 84 points and Laine scored 44 goals. They also have a solid defence corps that’s led by Dustin Byfuglien and Jacob Trouba as well as Vezina candidate Connor Hellebuyck in net.

So who will take home hockey’s ultimate prize? It’s impossible to say for sure but one thing is certain: it should be an exciting playoff race!

The top contenders for the Stanley Cup

With the NHL playoffs underway, 16 teams are vying for a chance to hoist the Stanley Cup

The Tampa Bay Lightning are the favorites going into the playoffs. They had the best record in the regular season and are led by dynamic offensive players like Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos. They also have a strong defensive corps, led by Victor Hedman. goaltending tandem of Andrei Vasilevskiy and Louis Domingue is one of the best in the league.

The Nashville Predators are another team to watch out for. They finished with the second-best record in the Regular season and have one of the deepest rosters in the league. Their offense is led by Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson, while their defense is anchored by Roman Josi and P.K. Subban. Goaltender Pekka Rinne had another strong season and will be key to their playoff success.

The Boston Bruins are always a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs. They have a deep lineup with several experienced players who have won championships before, including Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara and Tuukka Rask. The Bruins also added some young talent at the trade deadline in forward Rick Nash, who should provide a boost to their offense.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to three-peat as Stanley Cup champions and they have all the ingredients necessary to make a run at it again this year. They have one of the best offenses in the league, led by Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, as well as a strong defense that features Kris Letang and Olli Maatta. Goaltender Matt Murray has been excellent since taking over as starter two years ago and will be key to their chances of winning it all again this year

The dark horses of the NHL playoffs

As the NHL Playoffs approach, there are a few teams that have been flying under the radar but could make a deep run in the tournament. These “dark horses” could be any team not favored to win by the experts, but usually are teams that have something special about their roster or playoff experience that could make them a danger to the likes of the Tampa Bay Lightning or Colorado Avalanche. Here are a few of these potential dark horses in the 2020 NHL playoffs

The Carolina Hurricanes finished the regular season with a plus-32 goal differential, good for second in the league behind only the Lightning. They also boast one of the best young goalies in Petr Mrazek, who posted a .914 save percentage in 40 games this season. The ‘Canes may not be as experienced as some of the other teams in the playoffs, but they have all the makings of a dangerous squad.

The Nashville Predators are another team that could make some noise in this year’s playoffs. They finished with a solid 48 wins and 106 points, good for third place in a very tough Central Division Nashville also has one of the best goalies in the league in Pekka Rinne, who posted a .922 save percentage this season. The Preds may not be talked about as much as some of the other contenders, but they could be poised for a deep run.

The Calgary Flames may not have had the most successful regular season, but they finished strong and have plenty of experience in big games. Goaltender Cam Talbot was excellent down the stretch, posting a .929 save percentage over his final 20 games. If Talbot can carry that form into the playoffs and star forwards Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan can provide some offensive firepower, then Calgary could be tough out for anyone.

These are just a few of the potential dark horses for this year’s NHL playoffs With so many great teams and players competing for Lord Stanley’s Cup, it’s impossible to know who will ultimately come out on top. But one thing is for sure: we’re in for an exciting postseason!
