Fenwick high school has a long and proud tradition of excellence in basketball. Our teams have won numerous conference, state, and National Championships and our players have gone on to successful careers in the NBA and other professional leagues.
Our success is built on a foundation of hard work dedication, and commitment to each other and the game. We are a close-knit community of players, coaches, parents, and fans who all share a passion for the game.

The Fenwick Way
The Fenwick Way is more than just a saying at Fenwick high school It is a way of life. From academics to athletics, every student who walks through the doors of Fenwick is held to the highest standard. That standard has led to some of the most successful basketball teams in Illinois history.
Fenwick has won 11 State Championships more than any other school in Illinois. The Friars have also won 15 conference championships and have made 26 appearances in the State Tournament Simply put, winning is a tradition at Fenwick.
The Friars have produced some of the best basketball players in the state, including Hall of Famer George Mikan Mikan, who starred at DePaul University before going on to have a successful career with the Minnesota Lakers, is widely considered one of the best players in Basketball History He is just one of many Friars who have gone on to have successful careers at the collegiate and professional levels.
The success of the Fenwick Basketball Program starts with a commitment to excellence from everyone involved. From the players and coaches to the administrators and support staff, everyone at Fenwick takes pride in being part of a winning tradition That tradition starts with hard work and dedication and ends with hoisting a state championship trophy.
The Fenwick basketball program
Fenwick High School’s Basketball Program is one of the most successful in Illinois, with a rich tradition of success dating back to the 1920s. The team has won numerous conference championships and state titles, and has produced many players who have gone on to successful college and pro careers. Fenwick is also well-known for its fierce rivalry with fellow Catholic school powerhouse Marian Catholic, which is one of the most heated and intense rivalries in all of high school basketball.

Fenwick high school located in Oak Park, Illinois, is a private Catholic school with a tradition of excellence in basketball. The Fenwick Friars have won 27 state championships more than any other high school in Illinois. In addition, the Friars have won numerous conference, sectional and State Tournament titles. The Fenwick basketball tradition is one of success, hard work and dedication.

Many of Fenwick’s players have gone on to successful careers in the NBA and other professional leagues. Fenwick high school is proud to have produced such Great players and to continue to do so.
The Fenwick basketball coaches
Fenwick High School has a long and successful tradition in boys’ basketball. The current Head Coach is Kevin Byrne, who took over the program in 2008. He is assisted by John Pfahler and Matt Lynch.
Byrne, a 1988 Fenwick graduate, was a member of the Friars’ state championship team as a player. He then went on to play at the University of Notre Dame before embarking on a successful coaching career. Byrne has been an Assistant Coach at Fenwick, Loyola Academy and Notre Dame prior to taking over the Friars’ program.
Pfahler is also a Fenwick graduate, class of 1999. He played four years of Varsity Basketball for the Friars, serving as team captain his senior year. After graduation, Pfahler attended Loyola University Chicago where he was a member of the men’s Basketball team for four years.
Lynch is in his first season as an assistant coach at Fenwick after spending the previous two seasons as head coach at St. Patrick High School in Chicago. He is a graduate of St. Rita of Cascia High School and Northern Illinois University.
