While both players were ultimately cleared of all charges, the damage to their reputations was already done. In the wake of these scandals, the NBA has been striving to change its image and become more proactive in addressing domestic violence issues within the league.
As part of this effort, the NBA instituted a new policy in 2017 that requires all players who are charged with domestic violence to undergo a mandatory evaluation by a mental health professional.
