The University of New Mexico Lobos Basketball team has landed its first recruit for the 2021 season.

Makani Whiteside, a 6-foot-9 forward from Los Angeles has verbally committed to UNM, according to his AAU coach, Justin Byas.

“He just felt at home there,” Byas told the Journal. “He really liked the Coaching Staff and the direction they are taking the program.”

Whiteside is a 3-star recruit according to 247Sports and had been receiving interest from schools such as USC, San Diego State Washington State and Pepperdine.

The New Mexico Lobos men’s basketball team is recruiting for the 2021 class. The Lobos have two recruits so far in the class of 2021, which is shaping up to be a very talented group. The Lobos have their sights set on a number of top prospects in the class, and they are hoping to land a few more commits in the coming months.

The Lobos have landed two recruits for the 2021 class in small forward Kobe Smylie and shooting guard Jaylen Cunliffe.

Smylie, a 6-foot-7, 210-pounder from Seattle, is a three-star recruit according to 247Sports.com. He chose UNM over offers from Washington, TCU, Gonzaga and others.

Cunliffe, a 6-5, 185-pounder from Birmingham, Ala., is also a three-star recruit according to 247Sports.com. He had offers from Auburn, Arkansas and others.

The Unm Lobos Basketball team has landed a 5-star recruit for the 2021 season.

The Lobos have been recruiting aggressively in recent years and their efforts have paid off with some highly rated recruits.

The 5-star recruit is a big coup for the team and will only help to improve their already strong reputation.

The Lobos have landed a fourth-star recruit for the 2021 season.

Makuach Maluach, a 6-foot-5 wing from Australia, committed to UNM on Tuesday. Maluach is ranked as the No. 89 player in the class of 2021 by ESPN.

He joins a recruiting class that includes five-star center Orlando Ugwoegbu, four-star point guard Aprim Muslim and three-star small forward Jordan Arcega-Whiteside.

3-Star Unm Lobos basketball recruits for the 2021 class include guards Tyreesse Johnson and Jaquan McKnight, both from New York, and forward Chris Osten from Texas. These are the only recruits publically reported so far.

The 2021 UNM Lobos Basketball Recruiting class currently consists of two commits. Here are the details on each player.

Gavin Glenn is a 2-star guard from Houston, Texas. He stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 185 pounds. Glenn is ranked as the No. 138 player in the state of Texas and the No. 139 guard in the nation by 247Sports Composite. He has offers from Tulsa, UTEP, and Texas State among others.

Isaiah Jones is a 2-star small forward from Dallas, Texas. He is 6-foot-6 and weighs 200 pounds. Jones is ranked as the No. 167 player in the state of Texas and the No. 190 Small Forward in the nation by 247Sports Composite. He has offers from SMU, TCU, UTEP, and others.

The UNM Lobos basketball team has extended offers to several 1-star recruits for the 2021 season. The Lobos have been active on the recruiting trail offering scholarships to players from across the country.

The Unm Lobos are bringing in some international flair for the 2021 Recruiting Class

Head coach Paul Weir has announced the signing of 6-10 center Daniel Gafford and 6-7 forward Vladislav Goldin, both from Russia, 6-8 forward Johan Dupuy from France, and 6-7 forward Alessandro Lever from Italy.

“We’re excited to add these four young men to our Lobos Basketball Family ” Weir said in a release. “They each bring a unique skill set and a passion for the game that will fit well into our system.”

Gafford, who most recently played for CSKA Moscow in the Russian VTB United League is a native of Samara, Russia. He has also represented his country at the U-16, U-18 and U-20 levels.

Goldin, a native of Moscow, played last season for Dynamo Moscow Region Volgograd in the Russian Second Division. He has also been a member of Russia’s U-16 and U-18 national teams.

Dupuy comes to Albuquerque from Lyon, France, where he played for ASVEL Basket in the LNB Pro A League. Lever, who is from Treviso, Italy, spent last season with Vanoli Cremona of the Italian Serie A2 League.
