Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Preparatory is a private, Catholic, all-male high school in Orchard Lake Village, Michigan, United States It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit. St. Mary’s is known for its successful athletic programs most notably football and hockey. The school has won 28 State Championships in 11 different sports.[1] The school has also produced over 110 professional and collegiate athletes, including NFL quarterbacks Tom Brady and Doug Flutie.[2][3][4][5]

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s was founded in 1885 by the Brothers of Mary. The first campus was located on the corner of Commerce and Second streets in downtown Orchard Lake Village. In 1896, the current campus on Orchard Lake Road was purchased and construction began on what would become Saint Andrew Hall, the flagship building of the campus and still in use today. The school moved to its current location in September 1898.[6]

The Basketball Program at St. Mary’s began in 1903 with the founding of the school’s first team. The team played its home games at Saint Andrew Hall until 1955 when it moved to the new Parnell Athletics Center which had a capacity of 3,200 people.[7] The Parnell Athletics Center was built with funds donated by James E. Parnell, a 1895 graduate of St. Mary’s who went on to become a successful businessman in Detroit.[8] In 1975, the Parnell Athletics Center was renamed Father John Donovan Gymnasium in honor of Fr. Donovan who served as the school’s president from 1970 to 1974.[9]
