The Journey to Division I

The Iwu Baseball Program has achieved great things since its humble beginnings in 2010. In just eight short years, the team has made the journey from Division III to Division I, culminating in an impressive 2018 campaign in which the team finished with a record of 31-27. The journey to Division I has been a long and winding one, but it has been a truly remarkable accomplishment for a program that started with just twelve players.

In 2010, Indiana Wesleyan University announced the addition of baseball as a varsity sport. The team would compete at the Division III level as part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The first season was a tough one, as the team finished with a record of just 4-41. However, there were signs of progress, and the team improved to 19-28 in 2011 and 26-22 in 2012.

The 2013 season was a special one for Iwu Baseball, as the team won its first conference championship and qualified for the NAIA World Series The team ultimately finished in fourth place at the World Series but it was a sign that the program was on the rise. This was followed by another Conference Championship in 2014 and another trip to the World Series this time finishing in third place.

In 2015, Indiana Wesleyan made the jump to Division I Baseball as part of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The transition proved to be a tough one, as the team finished with a record of just 12-39. However, there were again signs of progress, as evident by the team’s improvement to 27-28 in 2016 and 31-27 in 2017.

The 2018 season was an historic one for Indiana Wesleyan Baseball as the team finished with a record of 31-27 and made it all the way to the MAC Tournament Championship game It was a remarkable achievement for a program that had only been competing at the Division I level for three years. Unfortunately, the team came up just short in its quest for a conference title falling to Kent State University 9-8 in Extra Innings

Despite coming up just short in 2018, Indiana Wesleyan Baseball has established itself as a force to be reckoned with at the Division I level. With continued hard work and dedication, there is no doubt that this program will only continue to grow and improve in years to come.
