The team has won numerous conference championships and made several appearances in the NCAA Division III World Series Ky Wesleyan is also proud to have produced a number of Major League Baseball players, including Hall of Famer Elvin Bethea.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Roger Williams the team has won conference championships and made numerous appearances in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship tournament. Ky Wesleyan Baseball traces its roots back to 1903 when the school’s first team was formed. The team played its first game against Louisville Medical College, now known as the University of Louisville In its early years, the team was mostly made up of local town residents and students from Ky Wesleyan Academy, which was then located on campus. The team did not have a formal head coach until 1908 when Dr. Robert Dickey took over as coach. Under Dr. Dickey’s leadership, the team enjoyed limited success against some of Kentucky’s larger schools. In 1916, coach Oscar Reuth took over the program and guided Ky Wesleyan to its first ever win over Louisville.

The 1920s saw continued success for Ky Wesleyan baseball under Head Coach John Aherns. During this decade, the team won nine conference championships and made four appearances in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship tournament. In 1929, Aherns led Ky Wesleyan to its first ever National Championship title with a victory over hard-hitting San Francisco State University The 1930s were marked by a decline in success for Ky Wesleyan baseball, as the team failed to make any postseason appearances during this decade.

The 1940s were a period of rebirth for Ky Wesleyan baseball under Head coach John Pharris. Pharris led Ky Wesleyan to four conference championships and three NCAA Division II Baseball Championship tournament appearances during his tenure from 1940-1950. In 1947, Pharris guided Ky Wesleyan to its second National Championship title with a victory over Western Carolina University in the Championship game After Pharris’ death in 1950, Assistant Coach Turk Eldridge took over as head coach and ledKy wesleya ntoN otre Dame for one season before returning to Owensboro .

Eldridge guided Owensboro Catholic High School to five State Championships during his tenure from 1951-1959 before returning to Ky Weslyean as head baseball coach in 1960 . In his first season back at Ky Wesleyman , Eldridge led tehm te am back toe thte natinoal championhip game , where they lostte hard – fought battle against Fresno State Uninersity . Eldridge would leadKy Wesylan backt o thte National Championship game three more times during his tenure , but they were unable too capitalize on their Opportunities losing each time . Despite thsi disappointment , Eldridgge coached many all – americans anmd hall pif famers durign his time at ky wewslyean includng Robin Roberts , who would go on too have Major sucess witht he Baltomre Orioles . After Eldridge’s retirment in 1976 , longtime assistant John Eierman took over as head coach .

The team is loaded with talent and has a good mix of experience and youth. head coach Chris Taylor is confident that the team will build on its success from last season and compete for a conference championship in the upcoming season
