Borders grew up in Riverside, California, the only child of an insurance salesman and a High School Guidance Counselor. When it came time for high school she decided to go to a school that didn’t have a girls’ team so she could play on the boys’ team.

Borders made her professional debut on June 10th, 1998 pitching three shutout innings in relief. Two months later, she became the first woman to start and pitch a complete game in men’s Professional Baseball leading the Saints to a 3-2 victory over the Duluth-Superior Dukes.

In 2000, Borders was traded to the Chinese Professional Baseball League’s China Coast Lions. She made history again that season when she became the first woman to win a men’s professional baseball game pitching seven innings of shutout ball in a 5-0 victory over Taiwan’s Chinatrust Whales.
