Chemeketa Baseball: A Team on the Rise
Since 2017, Chemeketa’s Baseball Team has been on the rise. That year, they went 15-17 overall and 8-10 in conference play The next year, they went 18-16 overall and 11-7 in conference play Finally, in 2019, they had their best season yet. They went 25-11 overall and a perfect 14-0 in conference play. They won the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) championship and made it to the NJCAA Division III World Series where they finished in fourth place.
This season, they are looking to build on that success. They are currently 10-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play. They have already beaten some of the teams that they lost to last year, including Yakima Valley College (who they lost to in the World Series).
The team is led by two great coaches: Head Coach Nate Mayben and Assistant Coach Ryan Stover. Coach Mayben has been with the team since 2017 and has helped turn them into a winning program. Coach Stover is a recent addition to the Coaching Staff but he has already made a big impact. He is a former MLB player (with the Seattle Mariners) and he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.
The team is also led by two Great players pitcher Gavin Glen and infielder Tanner O’Dell. Gavin Glen is a sophomore who was named NWAC Pitcher of the Year last season. He is currently 4-0 with a 0.69 ERA this season. Tanner O’Dell is a junior who was named NWAC Player of the Year last season. He is currently hitting .419 with four home runs and 22 RBIs this season.
