The Infield

The infield is the part of the baseball diamond that is closest to home plate It is comprised of four positions: first base, second base, third base, and shortstop. Each position is manned by a player who specializes in fielding balls hit in a particular area of the diamond.

The first baseman’s job is to catch balls hit down the first Base Line and stretch to catch balls hit off the first baseman’s glove side. The second baseman’s job is to catch balls hit between first and second base. The shortstop’s job is to catch balls hit between second and third base. The third baseman’s job is to catch balls hit down the third base line and stretch to catch balls hit off the third baseman’s glove side.

The Outfield

The outfield is composed of three players who play defense in the outfield. These positions are left field center field, and right field. The Left fielder and right fielder are often referred to as the corner outfielders, while the center fielder is referred to as the center fielder.

The primary role of the outfielder is to catch fly balls hit by the batter. They must also be able to catch balls hit by the infielders before they reach the shortstop or third baseman. They must also be able to throw out runners who are trying to steal bases.

The Stadium
