Catcher:
The team’s starting catcher is senior Alex Diaz. Diaz is a two-time All-Conference selection and was named Conference Defensive Player of the Year last season. He is a solid hitter with good power and he does a great job of handling the pitching staff. Behind Diaz, the team has junior Nick Trzesniak and sophomore Mike DeNora. Trzesniak saw limited action last season but he has worked hard to improve his game and he will be ready to step in if needed. DeNora is a talented young player who has a bright future ahead of him.
Infield:
The infield will be anchored by senior first baseman Matt Williams Williams is a two-time All-Conference selection and was named Conference Player of the Year last season. He is one of the best hitters in Division II, batting .358 with 14 home runs and 50 RBIs last year. Senior second baseman Joe Doyle will also be back after hitting .276 with four home runs and 27 RBIs last season. The team’s starting shortstop is junior Ryan McMahon, who hit .307 with two Home Runs and 18 RBIs last year. McMahon is an excellent fielder with good range and a strong arm. At third base, the team will have sophomore Mike Cassano, who hit .265 with one home run and 13 RBIs as a freshman last year. The team’s primary reserve infielder is junior Nick Maurer, who can play all four field positions
Outfield:
The outfield will feature three seniors in Left fielder Tyler Ross, center fielder Austin Kline, and right fielder Dan Wertz. Ross was an All-Conference selection last season after hitting .333 with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs. Kline hit .309 with three home runs and 28 RBIs while playing excellent defense in center field. Wertz batted .276 with four homers and 32 RBIs while also playing solid defense in right field. The team’s primary reserve outfielder is freshman Jake Wagner, who has impressed coaches with his play during preseason workouts

Kutztown baseball has a long and illustrious history. The program has been around since 1884 and has produced many Great players teams, and moments. The Coaching Staff is committed to continuing this tradition of excellence and ensuring that Kutztown baseball is a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
Head coach John McCarthy is entering his seventh season at the helm of the Kutztown baseball program He has led the team to four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships and six NCAA tournament appearances, including a trip to the College World Series in 2016. Under McCarthy’s leadership, the team has had 30 All-Americans and 60 Major League Baseball draft picks
Assistant coaches Steve Singleton and Tyler Zielinski round out the coaching staff Singleton is in his fourth season with the team and serves as the recruiting coordinator. Zielinski is in his second season with Kutztown baseball and works with hitters and infielders. Together, this Coaching Staff has a wealth of knowledge and experience that they use to develop their players both on and off the field.
The current roster consists of 33 players, including 27 freshmen, four sophomores, one junior, and one senior. The team is looking to rebound from a tough 2018 season in which they finished with a record of 15-30 overall and 10-20 in conference play With a young squad that is eager to learn and improve, the future looks bright for Kutztown baseball.
