After high school Bryant decided to forgo college and declared himself eligible for the 1996 NBA draft He was selected with the 13th overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets but was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for center Vlade Divac.

He was born in 1963 in Hackensack, New Jersey and grew up in Virginia. After playing college basketball at Old Dominion University he was drafted by the Indiana Pacers with the 11th overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft He played for the Pacers for 10 seasons, before being traded to the Charlotte Hornets in 1995. He played for the Hornets for two seasons before being traded back to the Pacers in 1997. He retired from the NBA in 1999.
In his 14-year NBA Career Brodie appeared in 1,213 games and averaged 12.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game He was a two-time All-Star and was named to the All-NBA Third Team in 1990.
