CIAC Basketball Schedule How to Get the Most Out of Your Season
It’s almost time for the high school basketball season! The CIAC schedule has been released, and teams are getting ready to tip off.
Whether you’re a player, coach, or fan, here are some tips on how to make the most of your season:
For players:
-Get in shape before the season starts Running and sprinting drills will help prepare you for the rigors of the game.
-Practice yourweaknesses. If you’re not a strong shooter, work on your form and practice shots from different spots on the court.
-Know your role on the team. Talk to your coach about what they expect from you and how you can contribute to the team’s success.
-Be a good teammate. basketball is a team sport– help your teammates out and make them better.
For coaches:
-Build relationships with your players. Get to know them as people, not just as basketball players
-Create a system that fits your personnel. There’s no “one size fits all” approach to coaching– tailor your style to fit the strengths and weaknesses of your team.
-Develop a practice plan and stick to it. Your players will improve if they know what to expect at practices and have a routine to follow.
For fans:
-Go to as many games as you can! high school basketball is all about community support– show up and cheer loud!
-Wear school colors or gear to show support for your team.
-Learn about the game. If you don’t know much about basketball, take some time to learn the rules and terminology– it will make following the action much easier (and more enjoyable).
