The History
Akron Baseball roster is a baseball team located in Akron, Ohio, United States The team participates in the minor league baseball and are members of the Western Division of the National League (IL). The Akron Baseball Roster plays their home games at Canal Park, which is located in downtown Akron. The team’s name refers to the rubber and tire industry that was once prevalent in the city.
The Akron Baseball Roster began play in 1989 as the minor league affiliate of the Cleveland Indians The team was known as the Akron Aeros from 1989 to 2000. In 2001, the team became the Akron Triplets and played as such until 2006. In 2007, the team reverted back to the Akron Aeros name. The name change coincided with a move to Canal Park, which replaced rubber plant-contaminated land that had housed their previous ballpark, Firestone Stadium.
In 2016, after 27 seasons with the Indians, the Aeros agreed to a four-year player development contract with the Minnesota Twins ending their affiliation with Cleveland.
The most well-known player on the current roster is right-handed pitcher Shane Bieber, who was named Minor League Baseball’s Pitcher of the Year in 2018 after going 15-5 with a 2.28 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 28 starts between Double-A and Triple-A
