Early Life and High School

Anthony Edwards was born on August 5th, in Atlanta, Georgia. Edwards’ father was killed when Edwards was just a baby, so he was raised by his mother and older sister. Football was always his first love – he even played quarterback in little league – but basketball quickly became his best sport. As a high schooler, Edwards led his team to a state championship and was named Georgia’s Mr. Basketball. After being recruited by multiple colleges, Edwards decided to play for the University of Georgia

College Career

Anthony Edwards played one season of College Basketball for the University of Georgia before declaring for the 2020 NBA Draft where he was selected first overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves Edwards was named SEC Freshman of the Year and a consensus first-team All-American. He averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in 32 games played

Professional Career

Anthony Edwards began his Professional Basketball career in the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the year 2000. He played for the Timberwolves for four seasons before being traded to the Boston Celtics in 2004. He would play for the Celtics for two seasons before being traded again, this time to the Oklahoma City Thunder He would only play one season for the Thunder before being waived by the team. In 2007, he signed with Bnei HaSharon of Israel and played one season there before returning to the United States to play for the Miami Heat Anthony Edwards’s professional career ended in 2009.

Anthony Edwards was the 2020 first overall pick in the NBA Draft As a freshman at Georgia, he was named the SEC’s Player of the Year and a consensus first-team All-American.

Edwards was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Shanika Edwards and Tony McLean. He has two sisters, Antoinette and Ashley. His father died when he was 10 years old. At age 11, Edwards moved with his mother and sisters to Inglewood, California to be closer to his maternal grandparents. In Inglewood, he starred in AAU Basketball with future professional players Bol Bol and Zion Williamson

Edwards’ Legacy

Anthony Edwards is one of the greatest basketball players in history. He was a 12-time All-Star, a two-Ime Nba champion, and a four-time NBA Most Valuable Player Edwards was also a member of the 1992 United States Olympic team, which won the gold medal in Barcelona.

Edwards was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014. His number 35 jersey was retired by the Atlanta Hawks and he was voted one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history in 1996.
